[ it opens with the sound of walking, the creak of a door opening followed by hard soled shoes on an old wooden floor. there's a creak of a lid opening, and then the scrape of a chair across the floor. There's a pause without sound and then there is a song. After it's done, Takegami plays a couple simple scales and then sighs. ]

That was an interesting interlude. Do try better next time, mm? I think I lasted a good two minutes laying in that alley. Mind, I am still pissed about my jacket. Do you know hard it is to find a good leather coat in this place? Blood does not come out of leather, never mind the holes. People and their guns. How messy.

[ yeah, he does not care about dying. in fact, he finds it a little funny. ]

I was sickly as a child. At first I built myself up in order to get over the sickness but when I saw how it attracted people, I decided to make it more attractive.

It can be important to look the part as well.

What do you mean exactly by 'look the part'?

A host is a kind of playboy and entertainer. If I did not look like one of them, I would not get as many tips.

Oh, yes. That part. [She's almost forgotten about it.] I guess you were one of the most wanted ones.

[ He chuckles, moving over to check the fire. ]

Mind, I do not think that the killer part has a certain look I must maintain. But yes, I was very much in demand as both a host and as a man.

You'd be wrong about that. I believe it's harder to suspect someone who's good looking. People tend to think that evil makes people look ugly. No matter how stupid that reasoning is.

And there that theory is laid to rest for I cannot be evil. After all, I help little old ladies across the street and do not hurt animals.

So do I. And still that doesn't make you a hero.

You could simply be an exception.

True. I would not go out of my way to save someone I do not know unless it benefits me.

We all know there are exceptions to the rules.

[She smirks slightly.] Definitely not a hero, then.

[ there is a slight smirk on his face as well. ] However, I will beat a man if they are cruel to a woman in front of me.

[Perfectly deadpan.] Azar... A knight in shining armor. Those are the worst.

They can be so annoying. I just do not see any need to be mean to women.

[She quirks a quizzical eyebrow at that. Ionae would probably disagree with that. But she doesn't say it out loud. She knows he knows her well enough by now to get it.]

I suppose there are exceptions to that as well. I can certainly be cruel to those that I do not consider women.

I didn't know being a woman was a subjective notion.

That woman... She's not that human. Her reactions are strange and I find the urge to pull them apart to see exactly what she is thinking. It makes me cruel.

Cruel?

There are very few reasons why I would twist someone's fears like I do with hers. Such a thing is cruel of me.

It is indeed. But I guess we're all cruel to someone every once in a while.

Do you enjoy it?

A fleeting enjoyment at best. It's not much of a game if everyone jumps when I say 'boo'.

[A slight smirk.] I guess I know the feeling. Pretty boring indeed.

I enjoy a challenge and a competition, but there hasn't been any of either here.

Hmm. Maybe you should be careful what you wish for.
