[ it opens with the sound of walking, the creak of a door opening followed by hard soled shoes on an old wooden floor. there's a creak of a lid opening, and then the scrape of a chair across the floor. There's a pause without sound and then there is a song. After it's done, Takegami plays a couple simple scales and then sighs. ]

That was an interesting interlude. Do try better next time, mm? I think I lasted a good two minutes laying in that alley. Mind, I am still pissed about my jacket. Do you know hard it is to find a good leather coat in this place? Blood does not come out of leather, never mind the holes. People and their guns. How messy.

[ yeah, he does not care about dying. in fact, he finds it a little funny. ]

She apologized for not being able to save me. [ harsh. brief. a snapping of his words. ]

Guilt. That's all there is to it.

I do not think that she is one to feel guilty in such a manner. I also think that you are denying the possibility of dying and being revived because it does not fit in your world view.

That's right. It doesn't.

[ Because such a possibility should not exist. Could not exist.

He wasn't about to be fooled again. ]

[ and this is where Takegami's voice gains a little edge to it, a slight, not-right deepness. ]

[ Maybe he notices that, but he's too caught up in his own righteousness that he doesn't remark upon it. ]

You can't.

I can. Death is easy. Dying is easy. All I have to do is pick a spot where you are and let you see the truth.

Don't -- don't talk like that.

Our natural state of being is to slowly die. We rot as we stand. Why shouldn't I talk like that?

Death may be inevitable but that is no reason to go running towards it with your arms wide open!

And where is the fun in running away from death?

... Do you truly see yourself as having nothing to live for?

This place is nothing more than a brief interlude before my death. I certainly have nothing to gain.

... Is that so.

Do you honestly think that they will keep me here after their war is won?
