Having just finished training, she’s attired appropriately, wearing a simple dress and with her hair braided and wound about her head- displaying those pointed ears quite prominently for those who might have missed them before.]

I grow weary of the constant grey here. It is overlong since I have heard a running stream or seen the sunlight filtered through the forest canopy.

Tell me, those of you who have journeyed outside this city: does greenery yet remain in this world? It would do my heart well even to hear of it.

That's everyone's hope. A place without healthy plantlife isn't much of a home.

I have no intention of making a home of this place. [Home is a loaded word with her. Home is what she had left behind. What she had to defend.]

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Might as well make a temporary one here while you're staying as a guest.

"Guest" is a kind way of putting it. [Logically, perhaps. But pride is a difficult thing to reason with.]

But you are not wrong. I will do what I may whilst I am here, certainly.

It's the best way to look at these things. Why set yourself up for negativity and failure from the start? Homesickness only gets worse if you convince yourself you hate everything about where you are.

You are of a more forgiving disposition than I. [She's not sure whether that's good or bad.]

It is not entirely a matter of homesickness, but also one of duty and obligation. My objections to this place go beyond my personal feelings.

Trust me when I say you're not the only person who feels that way. There's a lot of us with duties and obligations back home. But that's here, too, for home, if we believed the Initiative. Even if we don't, making sure that's not the case? That's important too.

I know. [She worries, though, and she still has her counterpoints. She can't help it. But there's no purpose in arguing the point with a child.]

Forgive an old woman her fears and pride?

Only if you forgive a young one for being chatty.

Then I think we can agree there was no hurt feelings or weirdness on anyone's side. Nothing to forgive all around!
