Ah. Yes. Where I'm from, that's been known to happen quite frequently on Earth. [ Throughout time, even. Not that Earth really knows about it, or accepts it, for a good while, thanks to The Doctor. Earth has been his favorite since Two, really. ]

A hostile invasion, I take it, from how you say it.

What happened?

I've always wondered about that phrase... how can an invasion be anything BUT hostile?

America still allows immigration, do they not? Well, even if they don't, certainly foreigners still go. That's not hostile, usually, but it's an invasion.

Invasion has obvious negative connotations and we make and effort NOT to apply that to immigrants.

[ Excuse me, U.S citizen, but you were an invasion. Not only did your ancestors enslave or otherwise exterminate the Native Americans, but you razed the land as well.

You should be happy she said it in a way that's musing and factual, not with the disdain she could rightly give it if she were inclined to sulky about it! ]

On the Earth I know, that's only an ideal, not the truth. It gets better, but I believe you know precisely what I mean.

Illegal aliens, is that not one of your terms? I can think of a few invasions within Earth's history that have been beneficial. And I really don't see the difference between an American, an Englishman, or a Martian in terms of civil rights. Are extraterrestrials not just foreigners from outside your planet?

Let me propose it to you in a different manner.

Suppose I came to your home now and decided I'd very much like to live there. I sleep in your bed and I consume your food and I make use of your possessions without causing them any harm. I could very well do this if I liked to, without your permission.

But is this hostile? On the contrary, I should compliment you on your tidiness and your fine suit and your lovely taste in foodstuffs. But is it an invasion of your territory? Yes, it is! [ One can certainly hear the cheek and smile in her tone. ] Passive invasions are quite possible.

But you had a hostile one. So, again: what did you do about it?

Assembled a team of 'interesting' individuals and repelled them.

[ That's alright, of course. She talks almost a mile a minute when she really gets going anyway. ]

[He's almost a bit confused about that comment. Of course you have to kill when there's something like that. No one wants to, but you do what you have to.]

[Phil reads that tone loud and clear. For some reason, he feels obliged to defend himself and the team.]

We tried several times in fact. He opened up a portal and let in an invasion force. I wasn't there for this part but it wasn't pretty. At all.
