[ See she's the one directing the hail and fire on all fiends that draw near. No one will lay harm on this sanctuary so long as she has any say in it. ]

[No joke since he's so tall. It doesn't take long before Varian is headed outside. The only things he had on him were armor and Shalamayne, so nothing needed gathered up. And despite the sheer shit that was going on, the King of Stormwind still cut a regal, if not imposing, figure as he looked around.

And it sure didn't take long to spot where the spells were coming from, beelining over to give the blonde nothing more than a nod.]

[ If his intention was to snatch away her concentration, then his quest was complete. Fumbling forward a bit, she's quick to regain her composure and make her way towards her king. ]

I was--[ Cutting herself off right there. No need to make any excuses. ] My apologies for having not met with you sooner. There were a number of those from Azeroth who arrived here with the latest transports and I found myself tending to their needs.

[ They were all Horde for the record. ]

[Mission successful. Except not. Varian's keeping half an eye on the surroundings, ready to jump anything that gets too close. Considering Jaina's a mage though, like all good ranged she's not on the front lines.]

None needed for now. Those infernal contraptions are the worst for getting a point across. A number of those from Azeroth you say?

[Of course he's curious to know who. Fess up, Jaina.]

[ Probably wasn't a good idea to mention that now that she thinks about it. For the past few days her thoughts have just been focused on the monsters around them, so it's not surprising she messed up with this. Moving to close the distance between the two, she waves her staff a bit as she speaks. ]

Just ordinary travelers who wish to see Azeroth well. That is why we are here now, is it not?

[Hmmm, Varian's pondering that one. Jaina can problem see him working it over in his mind. For now though he's not going to suspect anything, Jaina isn't a malicious person at heart so it's fine.

I see. I hope there aren't many of them. Azeroth needs everyone on hand to deal with Deathwing.

[Varian pauses, giving Jaina a curious look.]

Those events must have started after I left. [ Even if she's only been here for a little under a month at that, she fears what is happening to Azeroth without her. ] Before my arrival, I was at the dread citadel in Northrend.

[ Using the staff to support her tired body, she'll give him a smile despite that. ]

It seems time must continue to flow in our worlds even when we are apart. It was hopeless to believe otherwise.

[The worst is upon them and there's no smile back for Jaina. Time moves without them being back home, and if what Jaina saying is true, then it moves faster. The idea of leaving Anduin in charge whilst Deathwing rampages is enough to bring Varian out into a legitimate cold sweat. His boy doesn't deserve a wartorn kingdom.]

So it seems. Not the news I was hoping for. It is particularly dire back home. He's making the Lich King look futile.

[ That's a bit too much for her to take in and after days of fighting non-stop against these monsters, she's at her limit. Thrall did insist she should rest more and here she was making her way to the ground as gracefully as she can. Resting on her legs, she nods wearily. ]

That bad, is it? [ How disheartening. ] I had hoped that with Arthas here that Azeroth may be able to rest, but with another threat looming overhead...

[ It's going to be a moment for her to compose herself this time. Do something to kill time, chin boy. ]

[Varian's pretty sure he could have worded it differently perhaps, especially when he watches Jaina sinking to the ground. Then again it was just best to not sugarcoat things- Jaina asked and he answered.]

It is. [Sure isn't going to tell Jaina the extent of the damage, not unless she asks that too. No, this is the time to be that responsible person in charge of a faction. He does know how to do that on occasion and this is one of those. There's no horde around right now to piss him off. Varian quietly crouches down next to the mage, putting hands on her shoulders with a stern look.]

Another threat perhaps, but another one we will strike down. The world can throw whatever it wants at us and we will keep defeating it and we will keep rebuilding. Do not lose faith over that, Jaina. People bind together in the worst of times.

[ A part of her does appreciate it, but the timing was just horrendous. Seeing Arthas here (feeding herself the hope that there was still something she could do) along with what month it was only further distracts her from the problems of Azeroth.

Fortunately her king is here to set her on the right path. So when he takes her shoulders, she finds herself growing stronger within his presence. ]

Of course, my king. [ See, she's all better now despite the dark circles under her eyes. ] If anything, this place has reaffirmed that. We will conclude our business here with haste and return to where we are needed.

[Gives a nod at Jaina's reply. That was more like it. The last thing they needed was to give in to the throes of despair, if they went that route it would never end. Varian would merely keep it to himself and hope Anduin was doing fine without him. There was nothing else he could do, and that was just the worst part- being helpless over something.

Varian takes a moment before getting back to his feet, offering Jaina a hand up. She'd been there with them all through thick and thin, it was about time the tables turned ever so slightly and he could see the woman was exhausted.]

When was the last time you ate? Rested?

[ Taking his hand, she uses most of her own strength (what little she has due to being a mage) to pull herself up, using him mostly to keep herself steady. ]

I eat and rest when I can. [ Translation: the last time was when her bestie made her. ] It seems their numbers are thinning out, yet I have a bad feeling about all of this.

[Right, that's one mage back up and on her feet with no problems. Though Varian isn't stupid, he knows Jaina-speak. It means she's been overworking herself in the name of helping others. Commendable but stupid at the same time. Varian is the best of hypocrites.]

Overworking yourself will cause more harm than good in the long run, Jaina. I am sure they will hold if you take a time out to eat something.

[Aaaaaand right back to business.]

Where did they come from? The people here did not see fit to give that information.

Afraid I have not an answer for that question.

[ Seems they aren't telling her either, but she thought it not worth investigating just yet. No, securing the area and keeping those around her well-fed was a higher priority. ]

Surely someone will provide that information over the technical tome when it is available. [ Believe in the best of those around her, she'll never change with that. ] For now you know my stance when it comes to vicious fiends.

[Just shakes his head. No-one seems to give anything away in this place. What a disaster waiting to happen!]

As we talk you can conjure yourself something up.

[Hint dammed hint. Varian's not too sure people will give information over the tome. There's also a sneaking suspicion that they don't want to know where the beasts are coming from.]
