I preferred the old books better. [This thing is being folded every which way, because they just had to make this thing harder to use.] At least you knew where you stood with them. The old books never changed; they might never have been easy to use, but they you knew what you were supposed to do with them.
[Is he talking about the book, still? Maybe, maybe not.] With all this talk of the Initiative and the United Earth issues, there's been something that's come up several times. Something I would be worried about, and so should others.
Traitors. Those who turned away from the goal right when their colleagues needed them most. Or the ones who never came to help in the first place, though they said they would. Traitors also includes liars. Yes. Liars. The ones who never tell the truth, especially when the truth could be the information you needed the most.
[He's getting exasperated with this new book.] I wonder, how did everyone else treat liars back home? In Ferelden, we had several ways of punishing those that had committed crimes against the crown, or those who'd lied and were caught. Some of them seemed rather harsh, but if someone who steals loses a finger, why not have the liar lose something as well? Something they value, something close to them, so that they can be hurt as much as they have hurt those around them.
So, how should we treat those liars, here? If we find traitors, what do we do with them? A mock execution, whipping, leaving them bound and gagged in a small room? Killing them would just be too merciful for what they've done, wouldn't it? [He pauses.]
Andraste's foul breath, this new book is more difficult then the other! [Okay, he's done with this book thing. With a yell, he throws it across the room.]

[oh man
oh no.
she's composed, of course, as she usually is, but her mind's abuzz and there's that flighty paranoid feeling forming in the pit of her stomach coupled with...anger. she's rarely seen Cailan like this and...
hah hah hah damn.
of course, she is going to play innocent until, well, proven guilty. this could be about something else, of course. though it probably isn't, considering the timing.]
...what in Maker's name brought this up?
video
You don't know what could have brought this up? [What indeed.] I was just letting everyone know what we did to people who lied to their majesties, back home. I think some of these should transfer over to this world, don't you?

You're suggesting we punish liars? What a naive thing to say.
[ so clearly the thing to do is antagonize the upset person. ]

And is also his job.]
Traitors were executed, or by order of the Inquisition tortured unto death depending on if they repent or not. It is the job of the Inquisition to hunt down such foes and bring them to the Emperor's justice.

Why, we cut out their tongues, so they can speak untruths no longer!
Traitors are killed, of course. [That bit''s true.]

That makes sense. Do you find the evidence of their lie before you decide to cut out their tongues?

The Initiative has a holding place for people they think deserve it.
[ Hooray underground jail cells. ]

It's still more then we've ever had at home, which means I have no idea what I'm doing with it.

Having killed traitors, and being considered one - because that's what you call an infiltrator and spy, in an attempt to gain information - I've seen both sides.
I'd prefer to find out the reasons, first. There's also things called two-siders in this sort of thing, who pose as spies to make sure the other side gets information just wrong enough to make their plans fail, and while your actions would make them look very good, it might also cause some careful plans you know nothing about fall apart in your zealotry. Make sure you're acting out of a sense of justice and not a sense of betrayal.
I don't entirely trust our hosts, but I'm not going to go around killing or maiming people without proof. If I wasn't somewhat fireproof I'd be dead from people deciding that I should just be dead.
