[It was something he would never admit, but Cailan didn't know most of the weapons that they were allowed to choose from. Something called a gun? Another one called a machine gun? Even the explanation of what they were was unsatisfactory, but there was a large group of weapons that he knew.
And finding his father's blade helped narrow the field down considerably. What he didn't know was what he was supposed to do now. They said they would send him on missions, but he wouldn't get to plan them. He couldn't go home, even though there was long awaited glory waiting back home, and his kingdom needed him.
Plus he had no idea what to do with this little book thing. What was he supposed to do, look at it? Read it, in some way, or communicate with others like he was told? This would all be exciting if he knew what was going on. Well. It was pretty exciting, anyway. Being sent to the bank, he was in full armor, tapping at the screen of the "book" and ignoring the stares of people walking by, most of whom were going on the other side of the street.]
Hello? This is King Cailan Theirin of Ferelden, I require information. [He keeps tapping at the screen.] I admit, I'm more used to books back home being less complex then this.
[He gives a roguish grin, something he isn’t even sure if anyone can see.]
Is someone there? There will be quite a bit of gold involved if anyone is able to help me understand this thing, I can assure you of that. I’m a king, after all, I’m sure I can afford a bit of help, even in... such a strange place as this!

[He pinches the bridge of his nose, because oh is this hurting his head already.]
This place isn't exactly -- in Thedas. Exactly.
Video;
Video;
Aside from the lack of native demons and darkspawn, it seems to have the same sort of people.
[With a boatload more technology, of course.]
Video;
[United Earth. Well. Hm.]
...But no darkspawn. [Oh man that's terrible news. Wait, no, not terrible. Good news! Kind of a letdown, though.]
Video;
[He nods, rubbing the back of his neck. Maker, this is going to be awkward.]
It's a -- nice change. The accommodations might be a tad smaller than you're used to, I'm afraid.
No smaller than a battle tent, of course.
Video;
Where is it that I'm supposed to go to, now?
Video;
The living quarters, if you wish to see the -- accommodations.
Video;
I would. There wouldn't happen to be a map around, or someone to point the way, perhaps?
Video;
[...Hesi...tating...]
I could always escort you.

Video --> action
[Once Alistair is actually outside of his home and looking for Cailan...yep, the armour sort of makes him stick out. That's why Alistair is currently sporting a really bad Hawaiian shirt and a pair of slacks instead, obviously!
So much less obvious.]
...your Highness.
action
It's good to see you... what do you wish me to call you? Should I call you Warden, seeing as you are a Grey Warden, after all.
Action
[He furrows his brows. The last time he'd seen Cailan, it had been his animated body trying to beat his skull in. So...]
Just -- Alistair is fine, my King. It is a relief to see you well.
Action
Alistair, then. [And you can keep calling him "my King".] Now, I must ask... what are you wearing?
[And can he get a shirt like that?]
Perma-action
[He smooths down the shirt. Heh, he knows how Anora hates them -- don't think he doesn't. But he thinks their smart, and he's ... a little passive aggressive, okay.]
The fashions here are much more functional than chainmail and plate, but they have many more patterns and styles than they ever did at home. I quite like this one.
Sharp, don't you think?
no subject
I quite like it as well. [Yes. Yes he does.] Much flashier then armor, even without the shine to it.
no subject
[At least he knows that Cailan won't tell anyone about this conversation in a negative way.]
This place does have its advantages.
no subject
No better time then now to see these advantages. Maybe, if we're lucky, we'll find a place to trade the gold and get such a shirt!
no subject
I'm sure we could. There's plenty of shops here for all sorts of things.
no subject
Then onward, my good man! Troubling times always call for a bit of pleasure. Just enough to offset it, of course.
no subject
There's also all sorts of food shops here, that sell things I've never even heard about until now!
I'm a bit peckish.
no subject
I am, as well. Some clothes, some more food, and a decent drink would do me the well of good, right now.
no subject
Nothing settles you into a new place like some food, I think. There are a few shops that sell it -- perhaps we should stop when something smells appetizing.
no subject
So long as there is meat and plenty of it, it should be fine. [Smile!] Nothing can be worse then the gruel you eat while in camp!
no subject
Of course, my King.
[He'll be steering them toward ... a burger place, because meat and potatoes are pretty safe.]
