[It was something he would never admit, but Cailan didn't know most of the weapons that they were allowed to choose from. Something called a gun? Another one called a machine gun? Even the explanation of what they were was unsatisfactory, but there was a large group of weapons that he knew.

And finding his father's blade helped narrow the field down considerably. What he didn't know was what he was supposed to do now. They said they would send him on missions, but he wouldn't get to plan them. He couldn't go home, even though there was long awaited glory waiting back home, and his kingdom needed him.

Plus he had no idea what to do with this little book thing. What was he supposed to do, look at it? Read it, in some way, or communicate with others like he was told? This would all be exciting if he knew what was going on. Well. It was pretty exciting, anyway. Being sent to the bank, he was in full armor, tapping at the screen of the "book" and ignoring the stares of people walking by, most of whom were going on the other side of the street.]

Hello? This is King Cailan Theirin of Ferelden, I require information. [He keeps tapping at the screen.] I admit, I'm more used to books back home being less complex then this.

[He gives a roguish grin, something he isn’t even sure if anyone can see.]

Is someone there? There will be quite a bit of gold involved if anyone is able to help me understand this thing, I can assure you of that. I’m a king, after all, I’m sure I can afford a bit of help, even in... such a strange place as this!

So long as there is meat and plenty of it, it should be fine. [Smile!] Nothing can be worse then the gruel you eat while in camp!

[He'll be steering them toward ... a burger place, because meat and potatoes are pretty safe.]

[At least when he's laughing, he's not looking as worried as before. Cailan has been seeing that with everyone, lately. The ones from back home, the ones he could see over this book thing, they all looked worried. Sounded worried. He could see that, plain as day.

But burgers sounded delicious. Whatever they were.]

This place is nothing like back home. I'd be almost worried about what else is out there, that it can be modeled after another place in this world.

[And once they get inside.] But the food smells better then home. What is this place?

A 'restaurant'. They'll make you all sorts of food that's on the menu, which is much bigger than at a tavern.

[Yes, all of them look better when they're not focusing on trying not to tell Cailan he dies or that they're married to his wife now.]

Look at all the options -- and they come with 'sides' as well, usually potatoes or -- vegetables.

Do they serve ale, here? One of those would not be rejected.

[They didn't look like they were lying though. Just not telling everything to him right now.]

We should bring one of these back to Ferelden. [Very thoughtful. Very thoughtful. Also, that's not a choice, potatoes or vegetables. It's always potatoes.]

[Well, that's true. It's just to protect his delicate brain, okay.]

Not here, but there are some pubs we could go to afterward if you like.

[And they can get more food to stuff in their faces.]

[Even the plastic trays were spiffy, even if Cailan could barely see his because of the food on it, when they finally sat down.]

This is rather good! [He'll try to not stuff his face. It seemed more royal to not shovel food into his mouth, even if he wanted to. But he does pause in his second burger to say something.]

There seem to be many people from home in this city.

[Alistair nods his agreement while stuffing ketchup-covered fries in his mouth.]

We have been fortunate in that way. I suppose that they have figured out Grey Wardens -- and Kings -- from our world make excellent assets.

Do they? I was told by this person that many of us have been brought here accidentally.

[Which, if it's true, is disappointing, and he hides that with another burger bite.] That someone else was to be picked, and we only got in the way.

Well, I've heard both sides of it. I suppose it depends on who you ask.

[...okay, he was at least partly stroking Cailan's ego and partly making a joke, but he's just going to not touch that one. The last thing he wants to do is get on his secret-brother-and-wife-sharing-person's bad side.]

Maybe I should have asked someone else, instead of just the one. [That's said with some relief; it was terrible, to think that he wasn't supposed to be here, when they'd gone through all this trouble to bring him here.]

This is... not terrible. I haven't seen the sleeping arrangements yet, though!

[He is totally not going to mention who he's rooming with because he doesn't want Cailan to be suspicious with, so...]

Well! All the bedrooms are completely separate, and they're also quite spacious and comfortable. Not at all drafty.

But we have roommates, is that right? That's what the woman... the one in the robe, that is what she said. I suppose roommates wouldn't be too bad, depending on who they are. But it's asking too much to be roomed with those you already know, isn't it?

Unless you arrive with them, in which case they seem to group you together.

[It's a way of explaining why he was rooming with Anora, after all.]

That does make sense, I suppose. I never thought I would say that I am excited to see who I will be living with, but I think I am!

So long as they don't turn out to be demons, of course.

I have heard rumour of there being some demons here. I thought it was only fair to let you know.

I will be careful to keep my eyes open, then. I'd much rather not have a demon take over my body before I realize it.
