Hi everyone. I've been thinking. If we're all going to be stuck here for a long time, I figured I should find out everyone's birthday and if they have a favorite meal or type of cake. If you'd please respond to this message with your name, birthday, and a little bit about you, I'd really appreciate it!

On that note, I was thinking. If people keep turning up, we should have some sort of monthly event so everyone can get to know each other, introduce ourselves and catch up and celebrate one another's birthdays. Like a potluck, maybe? There are too many people to do do this at my apartment, so I'd need to figure out a spot. What do you think?

Oh, by the way. I'm Mahdi. I like cats, singing, and cooking. My birthday is Valentine's Day!

( She definitely goes ahead and does that right now, since she's bored out of her mind. A good hour or so later, she's pinging back with her netbook. )

There's a room—they said we could use. Only for a few hours, and it's better than one of the training rooms. It's like a banquet room.

( She nods. ) I'm pretty sure my powers are the only thing keeping me from getting turned around here all the time.

Where are you now?

[moralperil]

The apartments... mine's 401, I think. I should probably check. [He disappears a moment.] Yup! 401.

( Nodding, she can be seen bobbing out of her own apartment quickly enough, starting to search the building. Given that she's on the 6th floor, it only takes a few hops down some steps before she's in the right area. )

[Mahdi is rather small in person. Sprightly, wearing an old polo and dark pants, his hair pulled back in a messy ponytail.]

( Lorna's surprised to find herself a bit tall, though she's always been somewhat taller than those she knows. Her hair's a bright green, perhaps the most noticeable feature about her at first. She grins, and extends a hand. )

It's nice to meet you. In person!

[moralperil]

[Mahdi doesn't seem to find much at all unusual about Lorna - people who are taller than him and have unusual hair are pretty par for the course in his life. Similarly, he has eyes that are vividly lavender. He shakes her hand with cheerful confidence and enthusiasm.] Nice to meet you too, Lorna! Wanna get going?

( She's nodding before she realizes it, and she gestures to her side after a second and starts to head down the hallway with a tiny bounce to her step. It's nice not to be cooped up in her apartment anymore, and she kind of likes getting a feel for this weird place; it makes her more comfortable.

Lorna looks over at him after a few more seconds, thinking on her best way to be sociable. )

What's it like, where you're from? Before you ended up here?

I was living in New York City before I came here! I worked at a diner as a line cook. I guess it's... well, it's like a city! It's full of people and noisy? [Mahdi isn't sure how else to describe it. There are so many details.] It's full of really busy, interesting people. So I guess this place isn't so different.

What about you?

[mistressofmagnetism]

( That makes her laugh, and she nods. She's definitely familiar with New York City. ) I've been there—more times than I can count, now. But I used to be able to—

( She hums thoughtfully at the question and slides her hands into her pockets as they walk. )

I'm from... a lot of places. Well, space most recently, if you can believe that.

[moralperil]

Sure, I can believe that. [There's not even a question in his voice about it. He trusts what she says automatically.] Did you live on a space station, or were you like... thoughts or dust or something?

[mistressofmagnetism]

( She's surprised by that, but she's also pleased. Well, that's a first. She smiles and nods, then laughs at the options. )

Something like a space station—I was running around with space pirates, kind of. It sounds a lot cooler than it is, really!

[moralperil]

I totally get that! I was part of a gang for awhile, working undercover, and... well, it wasn't like one of those shows on TV. [He seems almost embarrassed to admit it.]

[mistressofmagnetism]

( That's enough to make her eyes widen with increased interest. )

A gang? Whoa.

[moralperil]

Yeah, it was kind of intense. I got on the bad side of some of those folks, it's why I ended up hiding in New York. If you ever see some folks that look like demons and wear suits and carry baseball bats or like, blue flames, please tell them that I died horribly or that I was never here.

[He's rather cheerful about the whole thing, all considered.]

I'll definitely make a note of it. [ she looks curious, and presses for more information only because he really doesn't seem... too bothered by it! ]

Were they demons? Actual demons?

[moralperil]

I guess that depends on what you mean by 'actual demons'. [He taps his cheek thoughtfully.] Demon is a human word.

But in the sense that they're people who can do terrible things to you and eat the souls of humans, yeah, they are.

That's—whoa, er—yeah, that's about the definition I had in mind. Is that standard fair, where you come from?

Not sure about it being standard, but my main work's been trying to get the folks upstairs to take the threat seriously.
