I dinnae what a 'netbook' is. The wee woman wasnae very helpful ...

[There are sounds of movement from the netbook, but the picture is dark. It takes a moment or two of rustling around before something comes into view. It's blurred from quick movement, and then an eye appears, filling the screen. It's brown.]

What are ye, now? [The voice is male with a Scottish accent. The picture pulls back to show a man's face; wild dark blonde hair with grey at the temples, a mustache and soul patch that's serving for a beard, and a scowl that conveys a great deal of attention paid to the netbook.]

Magical box. With voices! Well, bugger me. At least it's got a wee typewriter attached.

I've heard this before from someone else. That people don't acknowledge magic's existence anymore. [It's such a foreign concept to her. Even after the Witching Wars, witches weren't banished and forgotten; new rules were just put in place.]

Aye. It's not the most accepted of things. I think people are afraid of what they dinnae know or understand. People who are found out, well. It's not a pleasant thing.

Are they hunted for it?

Sometimes. Depends on who hears about it.

Does it also depend on what they do with it, or is it just magic they fear?

General consensus is, magic is evil. Dinnae why, other than the fear bit. Once in a while, ye may find someone accepting, and I know a few, but they keep their heads down, like me. 'Tis unfortunate, but there's always some bloody bampot who'll make trouble. Turn trees and cows inside out, all that.

It sounds familiar, in a way. But I suppose people have a reason for it, back home. Witches rose up and started a war a couple hundred years ago. People can hold prejudices for a long time on things like that. [She shrugs.] Sounds like a waste of magic, using it to turn trees and animals inside out.

Oh aye, there's been quite a bit of witch burning where I'm from, two or three hundred years ago. The Church getting a bit outta hand, morelike. The couple of witches I've met, they werenae out ta be harmful. Seems a long time to hold a grudge, but religion's funny that way.
