I dinnae what a 'netbook' is. The wee woman wasnae very helpful ...

[There are sounds of movement from the netbook, but the picture is dark. It takes a moment or two of rustling around before something comes into view. It's blurred from quick movement, and then an eye appears, filling the screen. It's brown.]

What are ye, now? [The voice is male with a Scottish accent. The picture pulls back to show a man's face; wild dark blonde hair with grey at the temples, a mustache and soul patch that's serving for a beard, and a scowl that conveys a great deal of attention paid to the netbook.]

Magical box. With voices! Well, bugger me. At least it's got a wee typewriter attached.

[tap tap tap on the screen]

'allo, people in the box! What're ye doin' in there?

[ Reminds her of something out of an As Seen on TV ad, only he has much more character. ]

Though if you're calling me a fairy, that has to be a first. Nope! No real magic involved here. Just lots of talking pictures. Kind of like paintings, only more life-like and real time.

[ Cheerfully oblivious to the lack of sense she is likely still making. ]

[He pauses, realizing the weight of what he'd just said.]

... is there? Grass, trees, plants and the like?

[Talking paintings. Swann rubs the screen with his thumb. Doesn't feel like paint at all, just amazingly smooth, like glass.]

Like moving pictures? I saw one in London a couple of years ago, about a monster creepin' round. Like that?

There is! If you get further away from London, there's no so much around here outside of the gardens. Though hey! We have gardens. Peeta's out in the forest, which he says is real quiet.

Moving pictures -- oh! Do you mean movies? Yeah, like movies! These are like instant movies. Or like a screen that shows you instantly all these people out there also talking to you. None of us are really faeries. Or I don't think any of us are so far!

[Swann raises his eyebrows, then flips the netbook upside down. This may have a dizzying effect.]

[Flip around again. Swann is grinning.]

The future is so bloody strange. So! Hello again, not-fairy lovely person!

[ Her eyes slam shut when he's moving it around, though she peeks between her lashes and waits for the image to steady again. When it does, she breathes out in a sigh of relief. ]

Hello again, Dr. Swann! You're right about the future being weird. It's way different than anything I ever expected.

Oh aye. I suppose I'll take a bit of a walkabout in a wee bit.

Where are ye from, around here?

I'm from the United States back in the 1990's, so way not from here. I'd always kind of wanted to go to London! My mom lived there when she was little.

1930-sommat. '31? I think that's right. I dinnae keep close track to dates. I dinnae think I'd make it to 1960, let alone Thirty... eh, whatever they told me the year was when I got here. Numbers are crap.

Wow, that is so far in the past! Though I'm right with you. Who cares about numbers? They're really only useful in competitions. We can keep them there, nudge 'em to the side elsewhere.
