exsilium | ☢ 1 [Video/Open to Action]

[The feed clicks on, and the video shows a rather vexed young woman walking along the sidewalk or what there is of one. Her brows are drawn together, and her blue eyes are narrowed, displaying both suspicion and frustration at her surroundings. Finally, she grumbles and stops walking, looking directly at the screen.]

I don't know what sort of sick change this is, but I'm not laughing. What the hell is the Initiative, and why do I need a weapon now? There damn well better be some decent answers. No one's been very eager to explain much.

[She scowls up at the building behind her.]

New home, huh? We'll see. [Kallen sighs and directs her attention to the feed once more.]

It's doubtful anyone's been happy about arriving here, so it's a pretty safe bet there's no known way back yet, huh? That figures.

[Instead of going straight inside, the redhead simply sits against the wall of the building, still glaring at anything that meets her gaze.]

Just perfect.

[ Collette's wheeling by in her wheelchair, considering options for dinner (which frozen delight was she going to throw in the microwave tonight?). There's nothing particularly engaging about someone sitting and glaring out at the world -- except for where they're doing it. ]

[He'd been casually scanning over the networks, trying to gather as much data about this place as he could - when his finger slipped at the sight of a certain person. Rookie blinked, regaining himself long enough to adjust the screen and focus on the entry, before he took a few quick seconds to decide on whether or not he should speak.

Didn't take him very long to give in.]

... Usually how stuff like this works, but at least this place is nice enough to tell you some things directly.

[His voice is as neutral as he can get it, but boy does it still sound tentative. He wants to be sure on whether or not this was the same Kallen before jumping to any conclusions.]

[Have a robot walking out of the building. Stopping and looking around to get his bearings.

Noticing the angry red head.]

Hey, any chance you know where I can find a tech or gadget store around these parts?

[She glances up, glare softening at the friendly tone before she sighs with a nod.]

Not sure I could be more obvious if I tried, huh?

[If he's watching for her reaction, he'll be rewarded with her eyes suddenly widening at his voice, but she quickly attempts to regain composure. Kallen takes a shaky breath, then laughs.]

This stuff, huh? You have experience or something?

[Kallen looks up at the robot, only momentarily startled before she shakes her head.]

No idea. I'm fresh off the transporter.

[Oh, he was watching closely. Eyes searching for even the slightest hint of recognition, which is why that sudden change in her expression definitely raised his interest. Now to test that.]

I guess you could say that. [Some hesitation, before he's moving along as casually as he could.] Spent some time at a crazy magic castle, before getting dragged here. Met a lot of good people. Experienced a whole lot of weird things.

Wasn't too bad of a place, in retrospect.

You haven't happened to hear about Action Scientists have you?

Uh, hi. Name's Kallen. [She looks at him quizzically and shakes her head.]

Nope.

[She freezes when he says that, staring intently at the blank screen. Instead of responding to the topic, she cuts to the chase.]

Turn on the camera.

[There's a click, before the video pops up. Showing Rookie leaning casually against the wall of a building, with one fingerless gloved hand raised in greeting towards the camera. If it wasn't for the helmet, she might have been able to see that grin tagging along in his voice.]

Hey, Kallen. It's good to see you again.

[She freezes, and her expression changes to something... else. It's hard to say what exactly. Either way, she's hardly happy and in a joking mood.]

Where the hell are you?

[That gets him to pause significantly, before shifting his helmet to the side. Why did that look suddenly make him feel uneasy?]

Not that far from the apartments. [Tick of a second.] Why? What's wrong?

[You are making him worried, Kallen.]

[So close, yet so far.]

Give me a direction. Or you come here.

That's okay, I didn't expect this to be that easy.

You wouldn't happen to specialize in quantum science or worm holes, would you?

[...] Stay there. I'll meet you.

[With that, the video feed quickly cuts off, before he's taking off at a run. For once not taking his time, but he couldn't help it. Something didn't feel right, and for that very reason it put him on edge.

So it wasn't very long before there's an armored soldier skidding to a halt a couple feet away. Silent, questioning looks being given in her direction, but also observing her to see if there was anything wrong that he might not have noticed through video.]

Not in the slightest.

[Kallen had stood up by now, and when he arrives, her face is solemn, sort of unbelieving. She closes the gap and looks up at him, eyes narrowing slightly.]

Take off the helmet.

Well then, there's only one thing to do.

Keep looking?

[That causes an involuntary step backwards, before he's quickly correcting himself.]

... All right. [Curious, almost, at the request, but he'll go ahead and move to tug off that helmet. Only to prop it delicately beneath one arm and stare at her with one eyebrow raised.

Never mind the fact he felt highly uncomfortable having his helmet off in a new location, but then again this was also Kallen.]

[Her eyes widen once again, and when she sees it's really him, she visibly relaxes as she reaches up to place a hand on the side of his face. There's a sad smile gracing her features now.]

You really don't know, do you? It's been four months.

Yep.

And grab some lunch before looking around this city.

[She bites back the urge to mention that it's actually two things and just nods instead.]

You know anywhere to eat? [Standing up!]

[There's a small movement to lean into her hand, something he did without thinking, but the smile he would have given in return to the action faltered at her expression.

Then he just seemed to freeze completely. Those eyebrows moving to furrow together when hearing her words, before Rookie was suddenly watching her very carefully. Near skeptically, even, as he searched for any hints that she was kidding. Toying with him - though there was a big part of him that was doubting it.]

What do you mean, four months?
