002 | VIDEO

I miss home. I know that's normal, I know - I know there's nothing that can be done about it. I try to keep that in mind so it won't get to me so much. Everyone is so nice and helpful, even with everything going on. I'm very thankful, and - I would like to think I have made some friends.

[There's a pause, and he sighs softly. He suddenly isn't sure why he decided to start this feed.]

It's weird... one of the things I miss the most is hearing my language. [a little exhale, followed by a contradictory smile.] I wasn't used to speaking English for so long until I came here.

... Are all of you from English-speaking countries?

[It should be noted that her accent sounds as if she is from Spain.]

This language, where I come from, is called 'Chondathan'. It was one of the main languages in the area I traveled. There are others I know -

[She says, in what sounds enough like Spanish to be understandable as such, but in a very formal mode:] There is this language of civilized persons [Switching back to English] which is Illuskan...

[Another language, this one like Arabic, before switching back] Midani...

[Another one! This one is blunt and the words come out almost in a chant.] Dwarven.

I also speak the language of the orcs, but most of that is not fit for polite conversation.

[She smiles, a bit wryly.]

I travel a great deal. It's helpful to know a number of them. I haven't found languages with those names here, but I'm not from Earth.

[Well, okay, that much is obvious.]

[She nods, just a little.]

And even some from different times within the worlds that are here. I haven't seen anyone from my world yet, but they could be from the past or the future of when I came from. I don't know - we use magic where I'm from, and I'm still learning things about technology as it is here. I still flinch at guns.

But my ...job, would be the best word for it, I suppose! involved a great deal of travel, and learning new languages helped. My best friend was working on teaching me some more languages, but I'm not really fluent yet - and they're dead languages, too, so not that much use, really, in day-to-day. But I also studied a great deal, mostly history, so they'll come in handy in some places.

[She chuckles.]

Well, mine was more 'mercenary' than anything else, so it might not have been everyone's bag of beans.

And radio... communications, yes? You might be surprised what might come up. Some people are trying to get things more organized, and having someone to do announcements and distribute information might be incredibly helpful. What else did you do?

Sorry - where I'm from we didn't have this technology, so some things I'm still learning about. We're still in castles, horse-drawn wagons and swords there.

Still, knowing how to present like that could be very helpful.

I had some trouble getting over my worries about guns - I still have them - where I'm from, they tend to explode more often than not. Otherwise, I keep my eyes open and listen and ask questions, and it's not as hard as it might seem.

I respect them. I can use them. I just don't trust them.

Although the ones they have here are much more reliable than the ones where I come from. You don't need to pour in the powder and stuff the ball in and then hope it doesn't explode. Much more efficient... but not nearly as... I don't want to use 'satisfying', because that's not what I mean, but... it's so detached. If I do violence, I want to see the effects of it. Not from bloodlust, but to remind me of what I'm doing and why, so I understand the cost to everyone involved.
