[He's sitting outside somewhere, his back to a wall, frowning at the screen. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about him, the thing most likely to make an impression--besides the crazy sideburns--is that he looks mean.

And he is. What little time he's had to adjust hasn't improved his mood.]

So what's the consensus? Just do what they tell you and they'll let you go home, or am I bein' too optimistic?

[it's hard to believe that things are so bad between them that Scott wouldn't give him so much as a phone call if Emma disappeared, but on the other hand...]

[It doesn't take telepathy to know what Logan's thinking. Damn that entire stupid argument, anyway.]

If there's time travel involved, that doesn't mean anything. We could be here years and only have minutes pass at home.

[Emma's worried about having so many heavy hitters here instead of home where they're needed, too. At least Rogue and Gambit are still in Westchester with the kids. One hopes.]

They threw us into a VR simulation with no life support for three straight days.

She nods and disconnects, and is waiting when he arrives. Haymitch is passed out drunk somewhere idk.]

[He gives the place a once-over as soon as he's inside--pretty much the same as his, but it's a habit--and then does the same for Emma, making sure she's okay. She's not quite a delicate flower, but she's not indestructible, either.]

So what do you think?

[Emma greets Logan with a genuine smile, squeezing his forearm, but quickly grows serious.]

I think it's a good idea, once we know where to start. Erik could rip a hole the size of Utopia in this place if he wanted, but a little focus will go farther.

[That she's being nicer than usual doesn't go unnoticed--especially since he wasn't expecting it--but it sounds like she's had a hell of a time, and mostly by herself.

He shoots her a crooked grin.]

So we need to do some recon, I guess.

[It has been a bad couple of weeks, and besides, her loyalty to Scott doesn't mean she doesn't still like some of the people who went to Westchester. Logan was kind to her after Jean invaded her mind, and being unused to kindness, Emma's never forgotten.]

Tony hasn't been able to break into their network. I wasn't able to break out of the simulation.

[She snorts in disgust, shaking her head.]

Would you like a drink? Haymitch won't miss a glass or two.

[Yep, rooming with the drunk.]

I was thinkin' more the old-fashioned kind of recon.

[Meaning the kind where you sneaked in as far as you could get and removed anybody who got in your way. In the old days, that might have been non-lethally, but now--

[Emma wants a gin and tonic, so that's what Logan's getting, too.]

Neither Erik nor I are good at that kind of thing, and until you showed up, there wasn't anyone I trusted.

[She hands Logan his glass and hisses through her teeth.]

There's a version of Mystique here, but she's a child. Late teens at best. None of the experience and definitely none of the ruthlessness.

[His expression darkens, and he processes that for a second, drinking his gin and tonic. (It's a good solid classic, nothing too fancy--and anyway, he's not picky about alcohol.)]

It doesn't matter how old she is; she's nothin' but a knife in the back.

[Emma seats herself on the couch.]

She's claiming to be Xavier's sister. Xavier isn't gainsaying her.

[She pinches the bridge of her nose. Xavier.]

He's my age and he has hair.

[Welcome to Exsilium, Logan. How soon can you get us out of here?]

[He almost chokes on his drink, and--because standing up suddenly seems like too much damn work--sits down opposite Emma (somewhere idk).]

You gotta be kiddin' me.

[a pause. it's not like this is anywhere close to the worst possible scenario, so there's that.]

Least he's here, I guess. If we need backup, or somethin'.

I'm not sure how much use he'll be. He's...so terribly young.

[Emma's only a few years older, but her life has been unending struggle since she was 16, and Charles lacks the steel that comes from surviving tragedy. She takes rather larger a drink than might be considered strictly ladylike.]

[He watches her for a second, silently commiserating.]

Yeah, well. You, me, and Magneto; that ain't bad.

[Partly it's to fill the silence with something that sounds less vaguely hopeless, but he means it: between the three of them, it's a hell of a skill set.]

There are worse people to have around, certainly.

[Emma smiles one of her more normal smiles, one with edges. She respects both of them a great deal, even if she doesn't show it much where Logan's concerned.]

You could be stuck here with Quentin Quire.

[he smirks at that, but it fades fast: what he wouldn't give to be stuck at the school, Quentin or not, right now.]

Anyway. I'll see if I can't get in there and find somethin' out soon as I can.

[Why did you have to bring up her least-favorite student, Logan? Why? Emma gives him a dirty look.]
