[another muted, unhappy sound. well, what else is he supposed to do? apologizing is his thing.]

You could say, "Thank you, Chloe, for being so gracious as to point out that I don't need to apologize." [Totally teasing now.]

[there's a beat where you know he's totally about ready to fire off the response word-for-word before he catches that's...actually not a request. unless it is because girls are tricky.
