[There is the tell-tale sound of heaving in the background. The communicator is on its side, camera facing a cup of some clear alcohol on ice that's swirling in a tumbler. Where did this mysterious alcohol come from when Haymitch appears to be newly-arrived, you ask? We may never know.

His cheek is still stinging from where Katniss had gouged him, but it was a dull thrum that didn't seem so bad when he couldn't see straight. Eventually, he manages to get the camera upright and gives it a winning grin – or it would be winning, if there wasn't the telltale glisten of vomit on his lower lip. Some might not notice that.]

So, we're in for another Game. Different rules, sure, and a real 'battle', but – [and he waves his hand toward the camera,] – still. I should introduce myself, if that's the case.

[He makes a mostly-unsuccessful attempt to straighten himself up a little, leaning heavily on the outside wall of the nearest building before forcing himself to his feet and dipping himself in a sloppy bow.]

Haymitch Abernathy, victor of the second Quarter Quell. I come from District 12, home of coal and very little else.. This place is at least less of a violent assault on the senses than the Capitol – nobody's hair has made me shield my eyes yet. That's something.

[He produces a flask from his jacket pocket and places it to his lips, tipping it completely upside-down to suck the last few drops from it.]

Tell me, fellow captives -- how do you feel about the likelihood we'll be forced to kill people we know nearly nothing about in the name of this place's 'freedom'?

As I have told others, you may have weapons but you may not need to kill anyone you do not wish to. I am sure there are others who as more inclined towards that end of the matters.

Welcome to Exsilium. We are living on the ruins of what once was England on the planet earth in the year 3312. This is the rebelling group that wishes to stop this future by sending us into the past to make minor fixes in time, and while they do say war, there has been little fighting. I believe one group actually spent their last mission listening to music, eating strange mushrooms and smoking marijuana. Another group punched dinosaurs and rescued cats.

I'm well aware you can make a decision on your own, thanks, but the implication of giving someone a weapon and telling them there's a war going on does tend to lean toward death.

[He snorts.]

Sounds like a spectacular failure so far.

It has been six months. They had been exiled here for over a hundred years. If it is a war, then it is not one that requires too much panic over people dying.

Did you miss the part where you can have a weapon from anything? I know a man whose weapon is a cat. I have a set of rings. Not exactly the kind of items that inspire fear and thoughts of horrible killings.

People killing people is a part of war. People talking to people also happens. Expecting only one thing and one thing only will make it come true.

[It turns out that death is an expected thing when you're raised to believe you might have to kill people from your district and others before you turn eighteen.]

Ah, but just because something doesn't inspire fear doesn't mean people shouldn't be afraid of it.

[ He would... actually not have any problem with that. He had a taste for blood at a young age. ]

Anything can be deadly if you put enough determination behind it.

I suppose so, though I still maintain that I am a lover and no fighter.

Until you're a situation where you might have to kill to survive, that's up for debate.

I have yet to be put in that situation. [ Killing for fun? Yes. ]

This is really no war.

Then people should be grateful for that much.

They are save for those who think that we will be forced into mindless drones to fight for the queen.

You can never discount that.

It is one thing to discount entirely and another thing to think of nothing but it. There is a middle ground that people should be aware of or it will choke them.

Some people can't help but drown. It all depends on what you've been through.

Some people are too soft in the mind anyways.
