001 | [Video]
[The video shows the interior of a bedroom in one of the housing units, and a conservatively dressed woman in late middle age who is fiddling one-handed with the netbook and muttering to herself as she does so. Her accent is worn-down and of indeterminate European origin, more a matter of cadence and word order than any distinctive pronunciation.]
Ach, there we are. Such a contraption.
[Maria steps back from the netbook a bit, enough to show that she leans heavily on a forearm crutch for support. She props the other hand on her hip in a somewhat belligerent pose as she speaks, addressing the camera directly.]
So. The local fellows here give me to understand that what they want is help with their resistance, and it's for this reason they snatched me and all you other people up to this future of theirs. It's a very nice offer and I'm sure we should all be flattered to be so important to the cause, not to mention to have an unannounced trip to this rainy God-only-knows-where with all the expenses paid.
[Her expression should make it exquisitely clear that she considers this to be an enormous annoyance, to put it politely.]
But in my experience causes usually are a messy business, particularly when they resort to wars to do the sorting-out, and I'm in no shape these days to be running about battlefields.
So. Maria is my name, Maria Gordon, and what I would like to know is, who's in charge of the ones who do the patching-up of the people who do the revolutioning? Because I should like to volunteer for that. God knows I'm more use at doctoring than I am at most things, these days.
[She drums her fingertips against her side, thinking for a moment.]
Secondly, and besides that, who knows directions from the housing to the nearest pub?

voice;
[She supposes she'll need to ask Anders.]
I know of no pub in the city. The place to gain food and drink are primarily in the Initiative Hold.
[voice]
As for the other, what kind of a backwards future is it that has no pubs in it? At least don't tell me they're a nation of tea-totalers.
video;
Sign me up for the nearest pub, if you find one.
[video]
Video;
What kind of place are you looking for? Ones with more alcohol and less bother, or ones with more bother and less alcohol?
[video]
[video]
There's a place not far from the Fun Shack by the name of The Lion and the Crown. The sign's a bit battered, but it is a good place with a better selection of brew.
[video]
[She seems to perk up quite visibly at that news, and she leans forward to peer at the netbook with some skepticism.]
This little what-have-you, it wouldn't have a map on it?
[video]
[video]
You have a name, young man, something I can call you?

Common sense is not so very common as advertised, I have found. But yes, as you say, better to have some people who know what it is they are doing with the supplies.

action. (if she needs directions from housing, I guess she's in their room?)
Well it's not that hard to get to. Might be a better housewarming gift than helping you move in all the crap you don't have.
[ ooc: if this isn't okay I'll just make a video reply no worries. ]
works perfectly for me!
[Maria starts a little at the voice -- usually she's better about not being sneaked up on, but clearly the little computer gizmo has distracted her.
But she recovers quickly, because he's offering directions to the pub, and she could most definitely use a drink, what with all this time travel nonsense.]
Yes, because God knows to bring me to this future of theirs with supplies on hand would make too much sense. Very well planned, this kidnapping. But yes, thank you, that would be most kind.
\o/
But he pushes off the doorway with an elbow, uncrossing his arms in the process and offering her one. ]
Shall we then? I'm pretty sure they'll give you whatever sort of supplies it was that you needed if that's what they brought you here for. They're pretty good at strong-arming like that.

[She snaps the netbook closed and takes the offered arm; it's good manners, and it's advantageous to practice good manners. Not to mention highly advantageous to let people think she's just a little bit more hindered by that leg than she actually is.]
And I should hope what they brought me for is doctoring. They'll be sorely disappointed if they expect me to go running about doing battle for them.

They do seem to be quite chipper about how they're taking people for a variety of tasks. I bet they can totally figure out something for you to do now that you're here - they're resourceful like that.

Yes, well. I suppose that depends upon what the alternative is. For myself, I was looking forward to a cup of tea and a quiet evening at home, and this is very much neither of those things. I cannot say I prefer it.
[video]
You can get some tea here? I know that's not really what you want, but even if you don't want to be here, it's not too bad. They have some of the same things here that they do back home. Like ice cream, and tea, and books, and a nice place to stay.
[video]
Ach, I'm just an old woman who kvetches too much. You shouldn't too much mind me. And you have a point, also, that it could be much worse.
[video]
What's kvetches?
