[Video pops on; Tsubomi is half-hidden behind a small stack of paper. There is, predictably, a tall pair of ferns visible behind her, but there's no plants visible on the desk. She smiles pleasantly into the video, and reaches back from the tablet to shift around the paper stack.]

There! Hello everyone. If you're new, my name is Tsubomi Hanasaki! It's a pleasure to meet you. Now...

[She lifts a postcard onto the feed with a flourish. She looks quite proud of herself. It's a pretty, pale pink, with a cherry blossom painted in the bottom corner.]

It's nearly the new year, isn't it? It just doesn't feel the same to me without New Year's postcards, so I've been collecting some, but I have far more than I really need. So if you'd like to send postcards, let me know! You can have some of mine--but you'll have to deliver them yourself.

[She puts the card down.]

As always, if you need vegetables, I've transplanted a portion of my plants from the moonbase. I've started growing quinoa, but it needs a little more time to grow... if you really need it, I could see if I can collect some, but if you could wait until the end of January, that would be ideal for everyone.

[There's a short pause as she tucks some hair behind her ear.]

Is anyone giving haircuts? I can sew you something as payment!

Oh, Kanaya! [She brightens.] Well, would you like to arrange a trade? I'd feel bad to make you trim all of this without giving you something in return.

Uhmmmmm. [She doesn't like to say this.] Would you happen to have any historical currency? The kind that's useful on missions. Counterfeiting is harder than it used to be.

[ He stares at this all for a good fifteen minutes before he finally has the guts to reply, and when he does-- it's voice instead of video. Yata, you loser. ]

Um. [ ahem. ] I'll take a couple of 'em, if it's really okay...

[ Breathe, dude. Nothing scary about girls. Right. After a moment's pause, he continues, ]

... and if you can't find anyone else, there's a guy named Koujaku that's a hairstylist back home.

[Yata, please. she keeps the video up so she can show him there's two or three kinds of postcards, some remarkably less... pink.]

You're welcome to them! Just come by... [She pauses to pass him an address in a message. She lives underground with some Exiles, near one of their underwater greenhouses.] Right there! Or I can meet you in the town, if you'd like.

A hairstylist? Wow! My friend offered, but maybe next time.

[ Meeting up with a girl? Near where she lives? Crazy talk! ]

Town's better. I'm not too far so I can wait around there soon, but don't rush or anythin'.

[ He takes note of that variety, though-- ] Bring the girliest cards you've got, yeah? [ a beat, in which he realizes how embarrassing that sounds. ]

... ah! They're not for me, alright?! I'm getting them for a friend!

[She laughs, nodding agreeably. Whether she believes him or not is probably up to him.

She doesn't, though.] Of course! I'll bring the pinkest I can.

[She looks up, as if toward a clock on the wall.] Will an hour from now work?

Yeah, sounds good... I'll see you there!

[ And just like that, he shoves his tablet away to get ready. He's counting that interaction as a success. ]

[ ... and by "to get ready" he really just needed to awkwardly find a place to sit right in the center of town just ten minutes after their conversation.

It also dawns on him that the girl doesn't know what he looks like, but that was fine-- he was on high alert. Not that a guy just standing around looking tense wasn't a dead giveaway. Minor details. ]

Cutting hair can't really be that difficult. All one needs is a pair of shears.

Well, no, I guess not, but still... it's kind of scary. I don't want to mess it up. It's been a long time since I cut it last.

Then you should let me do it. I have a steady hand.

Are you growing them in the water again?

Of course! It's much too cold for normal farming here.

But doesn't the water freeze? [she knows Tsubomi must have a solution for that, she's just fishing for it. TELL HER MORE ABOUT YOUR WEIRD GARDENING THINGS :D ]

Quina? [ back home they never had to worry about growing their own food, flowers perhaps but never food. the fal'Cie took care of everything and even though it has been some time now- the entire process is still lost on him. ] I can't cut hair, but what sort of things can you sew?

[ they all still needed clothes, Vanille especially. ]

Quinoa. [She pronounces it more clearly this time, keen-wa, and smiles, pleasantly.] It's a sort of grain. It grows easily in water, so it's perfect for a place like this.

I can sew most things. I've made dresses, and pants, and a lot of blankets. [No, seriously, a ton.] I've made several winter cloaks, but I can't quite make a regular heavy coat just yet.

Sweatshirts, though, I've made those. Um, I'd be happy to make something for you, if you needed it!

[ Hope pauses, going over the pronunciation in his head a few times to back sure he has it down. ] I've never heard of it before, but it probably just didn't exist back on Cocoon like a lot of the stuff here.

[ another pause and he sighs, but listens to what she says and statement that follows at the end. ]

Yeah, um- let's see... I guess we'd need four blankets and a winter coat or two. Like I said, I can't cut hair but I could probably find a way to get other things you might need.

There are all sorts of things that don't cross from one world to the next. I think it's no surprise vegetables work the same way.

[She fumbles for a piece of paper, and scratches things down, mouth pushed into a small bow.] Four blankets... two coats.

I'll have to collect wool for a coat, so it'll be a little while... and I'll need to collect measurements, of course. But I think I can do that! I already have a whole stack of blankets, so you can just come by and take those, if you'd like. [She sends him an address.]

Um, I can't think of much I need right now, but would you be willing to help me move some things in the grow room they set aside for me? I have to shift around some boxes!

Tell me about it. It's confusing, but it's nice too... sometimes anyway.

[ all the unpleasantness of this war and snowy landscape aside, getting to learn and understand new things was a nice change of pace. ]

Alright, I'll tell my friend about this and she can send you whatever you need to make them since they're for her. And yeah, I can do something like move boxes around- especially for all I asked for.

I'll come by soon for the blankets and help out while I'm there.
