if your character is uncooperative, bariyan (or someone else? other concerned adults, c'mere!) will likely go HUNT THEM DOWN and try to take them to a safehouse built in one of the abandoned subway stations underground (courtesy of robin, anders, and nathaniel). bariyan's got magic powers that let him put people to sleep and he's NOT AFRAID TO USE 'EM so watch out for that too.

note that regardless of anything that happens, chances are that your character(s) will get dragged on missions/out to defend exsilium anyway.

[Nathaniel sets out as soon as he gets the note from Bariyan. He's never met Artika before, but he's seen her over the network often enough to know that she'll be easy to recognize. Knowing her whereabouts makes it easier, as does Nathaniel's experience with dealing with stubborn people.

He reaches the park and looks around.]

Artika?

[ That's an unfamiliar voice. (She's really terrible with following the network— if she hasn't spoke to a person directly, it's likely she hasn't noticed them.) So it's curiosity more than anything that drops her head out between the leaves of the tree she's currently inhabiting, and big dark eyes blink at Nathaniel. ]

Yes. Who are you?

[Nathaniel looks up sharply at the figure poking out of the tree -- he hadn't expected her to be up there.]

Nathaniel Howe. I'm a friend of Bariyan's.

[ And that's all it takes for her eyes to narrow, and she swiftly disappears back into the leaves. Man, Bariyan, way to not even show up yourself! ]

I told him I do not need help. You can go.

[Well, mentioning Bariyan's name backfired.

He frowns a little.]

That's a bit hard to believe, coming from someone who's hiding in a tree.

I am not hiding! [ ding ding ding, successful ploy. In another few seconds she's dropped down out of the tree entirely and hit the ground to glare at him. The effect is kind of lost though, buried in a giant, furry coat like she is. ] Now go away.

[Nathaniel manages to hide the smug smile at his success. He wonders how much he can depend on her pride to get her to cooperate.]

We need your help, actually. There's a safehouse set up for the children to stay at, but we need help guarding it.

[Nathaniel's of the belief that small lies can be perfectly justifiable depending on the circumstances.]

[ Pretty far, if he keeps that up. The hostility fades into uncertainty, then thoughtfulness. ]

...Bariyan did not say that. Where is it?

[Nathaniel smiles.]

Underground. A few of my friends and me found an abandoned subway station. I could show you.

[ She considers it a while longer, then nods. Protecting people! That's semi-new and interesting. ]

Okay. [ and she's starting forward, toward him ] I will stay there for them until the mission begins.

That... works.

I suppose.

[Nathaniel sure hopes Bariyan can think of a way to keep Artika at the safehouse once Nathaniel gets her there.]

[ She looks happy enough to follow after him without complaint. Well done, Nathaniel! Mission success! How long she stays there surely isn't his job, right? ]
