[The voice is that of a young woman speaking in a crisp English accent. She sounds entirely unamused, though not necessarily resigned to her situation.]

If the circumstances here are truly as they've been presented to me, it would seem that my travel plans will need to be revised and that I shan't be leaving for Paris in the morning after all. More pressing, however, is the lack of access to my own finances. I find this irritating, to say the least.

[A girl's gotta have some cash. Real money, too, not this fake stuff they're touting. This is absolutely ridiculous. She sighs, voice taking on a slightly more sympathetic tone.]

As I said, if I can't go to Paris tomorrow, I shall have to alter my plans. I am in dire need of a tailor. Someone skilled. Not a dressmaker. I shall impart the details of my commission to said tailor, if and when we are introduced.

At present I have nothing to barter with aside from my good name and promise of repayment at a future date. And with all these witnesses, that ought to be enough. My name is a very good one, if that matters to anyone at all.

[There's a deliberate pause before she speaks again.]

Though if anyone should have pertinent information on how one might go about securing passage away from this this... settlement, I should be much obliged for your assistance.

[Kate realizes that's not exactly fancy-speak enough. Sometimes, Clint rubs off on her in the worst ways.]

[Eeeeeeyebrow raise. Which Kate cannot see.]

I believe I have. As a matter of fact, there seem to be several tailors from which to choose.

That's great!

[There's a pause, where Kate relaxes herself.]

I'd love to know who they are, too. Do any of them come highly recommended?

voice.

[iphigeneia]

Mister Kirian Dawingsun came highly recommended by several people. The name Ella Ellis was floated as well. And Miss Tsubomi Hanasaki, who kindly offered her services in exchange for my hat.

[She snorts, amused.]

Your hat?

And why not? It's worth a small fortune and I've no intention to wear it once I've got my new suit.

Are you a "wear the clothes only once" type of gal?

Certainly not. I'm only practically minded. What use is a skirt when I can wear trousers?

Personally, I think they've both got their uses. It depends on the occasion.

I've had no choice but to wear skirts and dresses my entire life.

Donate them. I'd say burn them, but as cathartic as that might be because of the limitations they once stood for, they should probably go for some kind of good cause.

I am not certain anyone would fit into my gown. [A seventeen inch waist is rather small, even in her own time.] But perhaps the fabric could be salvaged.

See, that's thinking.

I'd definitely go for the fabric part. How much gown is there, anyway?

Well, there's... [She trails off.]

[And after several moments of fiddling, the video function turns on and she awkwardly angles her communicator so as to show off the massiveness of her 1890's dress.]

There's quite a bit more than is strictly necessary.

[Kate is torn between "wow that's some nice tailoring" and "that looks like a curtain," and she falls more on the second. But she can appreciate good craft. Her upbringing has unfortunately granted her this. (Or fortunately. It depends on the day.)]

I'm sure there's someone in the future who would say something like, "I miss the days when young ladies dressed like that." [She shrugs.] But it'd go a long way. [And not just for curtains, she thinks, the thought itself bringing a quick smile to her lips.]

Personally, I have been looking forward to the day when young ladies may wear whatever they please.

When did ladies begin to wear trousers? En masse, I mean.

It started with World War I. This was a huge war that involved most of Europe's nations. Women started wearing them then, and women's suffrage movements happened in the twenties. They became more popular during that time and through the thirties. Mind you, we still had to fight for them a bit. Women have roles and things they're supposed to adhere to, but we claimed them as part of our own identity for sure by the seventies.
