[voice] Idealism is a hell of a drug

So, I've been thinking the last couple of days, watching and listening to everything that's going on and something that... uh...

[Hold on, he's checking the post history.]

...Collette mentioned earlier on popped into my head. Odds are we're never going ot agree on someone to lead us, let alone make decisions for everyone - we're from way too many different worlds for that.

[Although he also doesn't really think that should be a giant obstacle, but considering the giant buckets o' opinions this place has...]

We don't even really have a set of laws to govern us - or a government. Which is understandable, given we're basically a bunch of refugees. Anyway - Collette mentioned putting together a code of conduct we can all agree on - or at least most of us can - and that we use to sort of guide our interactions with each other.

It won't be a law, we won't really have punishments or anything set out. But at least we'll have an idea of what's not OK to do to one another. And maybe it'll let us get ourselves sorted out so we can really start addressing how we're going to win this war and get off of this rock.

[No offense, people who like Earth's moon.]

We're not exactly going to be able to do that if we're busy yelling at each other about... cirme and punishment. Maybe I have more sympathy for that line of thinking, since I'm in a rebellion back home.

What do you guys think? Oh, and sorry Collette. I know it's your idea, but I thought I'd get it out there for people to see. Uh, hear.

My big concern is... Most of us know morality already. And morality or lack thereof mostly hasn't been causing our problems. The mutiny being one freak aside.

The real concern is more one of basic survival and recovery from a serious blow - and how to turn that around to being back on the offensive.

There's only one rule I need. Hurt my friends or anyone I'm close to and I'll turn your ass to ash.

[But she's proud of you for still trying, mate. It's more than most of them are capable of doing at the moment.]

I absolutely agree there needs to be some sort of official agreed upon code if not a full set of laws.

But I still think we could do with some kind of recognised authority amongst ourselves though, surely it's not beyond us to hold an election for some sort of leadership, whether that's one person or a small group.

...Do you really think we can- can convince anyone to listen? Even if a code were set up?

[ Her voice is quiet and downbeat, but not criticizing; she genuinely wants to hear what he thinks. Truth be told, she has zero faith in the community, but right now the last thing she wants to do is argue. Especially not with a fellow mutineer. ]

We already have a code of conduct. It's called common sense and social ethics.
explodewiththerage: (Bring it on!)

[personal profile] explodewiththerage 2013-11-24 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. See bad guys don't have friends. They have people they use and then throw away when it doesn't work to stop us good guys from kicking their ass.
doubleoohbaby: (let me gets this straight)

[personal profile] doubleoohbaby 2013-11-24 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's it though, isn't it? Code of conduct or not, there's always going to be those who do what they want. In an ideal society, laws wouldn't be necessary because everyone would understand right from wrong, but there's always going to be the few that can't help themselves.

The only aid a code of conduct will be is for punishing those that break it. It's little more than electric fence, set to shock if crossed.

We'd end up caught up in detailed discussion of moral codes versus necessity, and never get anything done anyways, is what I think.

Different worlds, different moralities. Different light, different darkness. Blah blah blah.
explodewiththerage: (Alright it hit)

[personal profile] explodewiththerage 2013-11-24 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't sound all that sure about that.
explodewiththerage: (Finally a challenge)

[personal profile] explodewiththerage 2013-11-24 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
And you found not that many.

[Heck you had to lop off your dad's arm to get him to come back to your side. Don't go preaching to him about love and peace and rules.]

[personal profile] explodewiththerage 2013-11-24 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No no I'm not talking about most people. I'm talking about bad guys. You know the guys who go around waving their power and hurting folk just cause they feel like it.

[Well it'll be fun to talk to him bout that when it does.]

[personal profile] have_hat_will_travel 2013-11-24 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And what of those of us that don't?

Plenty of examples of that around here.
doubleoohbaby: (here we stand)

Suppose it'd save everyone arguing over what to do with people like me.
