[Well, Asbel has managed to pull himself together. And he's finally figured out that setting the tablet down on a flat surface before he starts recording is a pretty good idea. Despite young face and unruly hair, he seems determined, and the brief smile he offers is kind.]

Hey, everyone.

I'm sure some of you know this already, but a good friend of mine, Cheria Barnes, recently left us. While she was here, she ran a relief organization, and I really feel like we should keep it going. Possibly now more than ever.

Its purpose is to help people during and in the aftermath of difficult situations and to get them what they need, whether it be medical attention, food, a place to stay...maybe a listening ear, or a shoulder to cry on, or skills so they can go out and do the same for others.

There aren't any requirements to be a part of this. You don't have to be a medic or a fighter or have super powers of any kind. As long as you want to help out, we'll gladly welcome you. And if there's something you'd like to learn, then we'll make every effort to teach you how.

We could definitely use more help, though, as well as some people who'd be willing to help manage things and keep them running smoothly. If you're interested in getting involved in any way, come talk to us about it. And if you aren't comfortable discussing things over the network or in front of a group, you're more than welcome to contact me directly or see me in person. My name's Asbel Lhant.

To carry on a friend's legacy after they have vanished. To overcome the pain of loss or transmute it into action. What a moving expression of friendship.

[Yeah, he knows. Or he would if he could read bracket-text, but it's still kind of uncool.]

[Asbel exhales, looking down at the desk.]

O-oh... That's what you meant.

Well, I know how important the relief organization was to her, so making sure it didn't dissolve seemed like the right thing to do. Besides, I think we could help a lot of people like this, in a greater number of ways than if we were limited to just one major area.

[Christopher chuckles warmly.]

My, how could anyone deny such a heartfelt declaration? Of course, I'll help you. [Because Asbel totally wants this guy helping out. Totally.] With my guiding hand, you shan't stray off the path set down for you by a friend.

[He wasn't trying to be sappy or anything, he's just keeping his promise to Cheria. That's all!]

[Asbel laughs weakly, a little embarrassed.] My sense of direction isn't that bad, is it? [He knows the "path" isn't literal.]

I was one of the people helping out before, but if you need anything more just ask. I'd like to help. And...I'm sorry, about Cheria.

Of course. We'd be really grateful for your continued help! Actually, we should probably start planning for when the new Transports arrive, huh?

[Oh. Oh...that. He glances away.] Yeah... Sophie's taking it pretty hard. And Cheria's probably angry right now; she really wanted to see this through to the end.

Um...

[He turns his head back towards the screen as he considers. It's not like Sophie's been bawling her eyes out (because she can't), but he's definitely noticed she seems to be hurting.]

Well, I don't think she'd say no to extra company. She's always liked flowers and animals and stuff. Sometimes she used to stay up late with the Captain and he'd tell her stories or teach her songs...

And there's always crablettes. [As if that needed to be said.]

They're...crab omelettes.

I don't think they have any crabs around here, though.

[Christopher hums softly, an idle noise of assent. Asbel doesn't really seem to want to directly face his pain.

So, because he understands that kind of refusal, Christopher doesn't push him towards such acknowledgement. Who is he to judge cowardice? If Asbel wants to work to handle his grief, then Christopher will help a friend by helping him with his distractions.]

But do you really offer a listening ear? I had no idea you were trained in the art of psychiatrist, Asbel.

That'll be hard to make, then. How does she feel about regular omelettes?

She'll eat regular omelettes, but crablettes are on a tier of their own. The "crablettes are the finest food in the world" tier.

[This conversation, he'll roll with it. Asbel sounds like he's quoting something he's heard a few hundred times before.]

...Maybe I could take her fishing somewhere. There has to be a time period when crabs were easy to find.

Well, actually, I'm not...

But I don't really mind listening if people want to talk about what's bothering them or just whatever's on their minds. Sometimes it's easier to solve problems when they're not your own, you know? Different perspective...?

... I talked to Cheria while I was here. I offered to help, and I can still help out.

Cher's gone, huh? Shame since she had good healing spells.

[He smirks, as if to say he really enjoyed her company as well.]

Guess I'd better watch out who I get in trouble around.

Yeah...she. She really cares about others. I'm glad if she was able to heal your wounds in the past. [The corner of his mouth quirks very slightly.] Although if she was still here, she'd probably nag you to stay out of trouble.

[Politely:] I know Cheria must've appreciated that. And we'd be honored to have you continue to work with us, too.

Can't. Guess you could say I'm attracted to it. Or I attract it, who knows. After all, I'm a pretty unlucky guy.

[He chuckles quietly, briefly and lifts a shoulder. He knows they have ~~spoiled weird eating habits.]~~ Sorry, Emil.

But hey, that reminds me... Have you heard about the Thanksgiving dinner they're putting together?

I have to admit, it wouldn't really surprise me if it were true. About you and trouble, I mean. [More seriously:] But isn't it unlucky to go around saying things like that?

[Kind of depressing, too. Asbel's got pretty rotten luck himself at times, but he doesn't exactly announce it.]
