[ She meets her halfway, reaching out to take Roslyn's hand and give it a light squeeze of assurance. Assurance for who, though; a good question to be posed. ]

Define "all right".

[ It's a touch bitter, but she catches it as soon as it's left her mouth and she turns her head to the side slightly, sighing once more. ]

Glad you're okay. Looks like we all made it out.

[ "We" being the Transports, of course. ]

[ Reassurance for both of them, perhaps. Certainly Roslyn's grip is firm in return, leaning in a little closer. ]

What would you define it as?

[ It's not a very promising answer, but she sounds almost more tired than angry. ]

Most of us, at least. There were a few missing. Hard to tell if they just went home or - [ She catches herself, lifts her shoulders. ] We'll find a way to fix this.

[gevurah]

Not up here. Half a million still alive.

[ She squeezes her eyes shut for a brief moment. ]

I'm sorry, this isn't the way you wanted to meet, I'm sure.

We're not in an ideal situation. It's all right.

[ There's nothing really ideal about this. But that's simply how it goes, here, isn't it? She pulls her in a little closer, almost a hug. ]

What are you going to be doing?

[gevurah]

[ Kate leans in, taking in any comfort she can get. It's difficult to process and accept. ]

Up here?

I don't even know where to start.

Do any of us? [ Slowly leaning her forehead against Kate's shoulder. ]

I think we just start small. As soon as we know we can survive, move on to the next most important thing. And then the next.

[gevurah]

[ A firm arm wraps around Roslyn's waist. ]

I've never been good at sitting on the sidelines. There's talks of securing the base first, which is a good place to start.

It makes the most sense. Give people a little more space, hopefully keep them from each other's throats.

If we can get the base running, we have the time and space to figure out how to fix the bigger problems.

[gevurah]

We're not meant to live up here.

[ They have to get back down as soon as they can. ]

... I have to tell you something, too.

Not with it in this state, certainly.

[ that's. always a promising start to a conversation. ]

I'm listening.

[gevurah]

[ She holds her breath for a split-second before exhaling quietly. ]

Someone from my world is here.

[ She puts an emphasis on "someone", indicating it's not just anyone, but someone who left quite the impact on her enough to make her insides twist and her throat parched as if she hasn't had water in days. ]

[ She pushes back a little, just enough to look up at Kate and consider the tone of those words.

No one could accuse Roslyn of being the most emotionally intuitive, but that sounded rather important. ]

You don't sound too happy about it.

[gevurah]

[ Happy? She hasn't quite figured out whether or not she's even marginally content Renee, whom she hasn't seen in months, is trapped here along with them. ]

It didn't end well.

[ But she longed for her for what felt like an eternity. ]

[ They've never actually discussed - much of anything, really. Maybe because they're both practical. Because they know either of them could vanish at any moment. Could vanish now.

Trying to make it sound permanent seems a little like laughing into the void. ]

But she's still important? [ A momentary pause, and then quietly. ]

[gevurah]

[ She mulls over it carefully. ]

... In a way.

[ Her heart aches to say it, watching Roslyn's expression carefully. ]

It doesn't affect us. [ She adds firmly, holding onto her just as. ] I wanted you to know because... you've already spoken to her.

And I can't ignore the fact she's here anymore.

[ On Earth it had been so much easier. ]

[ Roslyn's expression doesn't shift much, waiting until she has all the information Kate is giving her to try to sort it out.

After a moment of deliberation she tightens her arm around Kate a little bit more and nods seriously. ]

I understand. And thank you for telling me. [ Running into the information from someone other than Kate would have been unfortunate. ] I've already spoken to her?

[gevurah]

[ Her name escapes her with airy exasperation to it: ]

Renee.

[boughtabookstore]

[ Mulling, mulling. Ah. ] I remember her. [ a beat, and then almost a smile. ] Are cops your type?

[gevurah]

[ A cheeky grin and she moves closer.

Huskily: ] There's something about a woman in uniform.

[boughtabookstore]

[ She lifts an eyebrow, looks up and grins. ]

Oh? Is that so, Ms. Kane?

[gevurah]

[ She bites down on her lower lip, hands circling Roslyn's hips slowly. ]

If you don't mind my saying so, Detective Chief Inspector.

[ Roslyn smiles, her own hands running up Kate's arms. ]

I don't mind at all. Sometime I should drop by before I change out of my uniform.

[gevurah]

[ She leans in, her nose tracing the curve of Roslyn's jaw and lips barely touching the skin. Tease. ]

Mm... you should keep it on once in a while.

[boughtabookstore]

[ Yeah, that's pretty much being a tease. Roslyn shivers just a little, tilting her head a little as she whispers into Kate's ear, lips just brushing it and breath warm and soft. ]

I think I could see my way to that fairly easily.

[gevurah]

[ She looks around the office space, thoughts wandering to certain places. ]

How are the bunk beds treating you?
