We ought not doubt the existence of the rabbit on the moon. People didn't think there was a man on the moon, and as you can see, there are quite a few of them—and women, too. Besides, it hurts the rabbit's feelings.

Anyone who has any proof of the existence of moon rabbits, including pelts or rabbit stew, you're welcome to come forward to show the non-believers the truth.

Can you tell me about these feelings that these rabbits have? I admit, I'm curious about them.

I'm afraid that I don't understand! The moon naturally possesses lower gravity than Earth, and has no atmosphere, besides. Any animals would either float elsewhere, suffocate, or both. It is certainly likely that we are sharing this space with other life, but I have never heard of any such "lunar rabbit"!

That might be true if you're thinking about it logically, but in the matter of stories, you must listen only to your sense of beauty. A rabbit on the moon is a beautiful image, so there must truly be one.

Don't your feelings get hurt when people don't believe in you? Rabbits are just the same.

Doubtless they have all the same feelings as Earth rabbits. Fear and hate and hurt and joy and of course the most prominent of all emotions in rabbits, vengeful bloodlust. But as moon rabbits have lived off a diet of cheese and men, it may be that they have a stronger sense of community than their cousins on Earth. I'll have to ask when I meet one! Should I designate them test subjects, Master Huey?

I thought that too, but I didn't know its feelings would get hurt. I'll try to tell everyone to believe in them. I don't want them to be sad.

It is certainly a charming idea. I suppose that there is no harm done in believing it to be the truth! In that case, I shall believe.
