[ 11 ] voice
[Nate sounds exhausted, drained of all emotion when he speaks]
I've walked a future destroyed to try and kill a single girl. Australia was nuked. South America was burned to completely to ash. In Europe, most of the key water supplies were poisoned. The resulting riots and wars took care of most of the rest of the population. Africa and Asia, bioweapons and chemical agents. Many of the people left in North America were... converted. Humanoid cockroach. The self-declared President of America bled green. An attempt to destroy them wiped out most of the rest of the human population as well
To my knowledge, that future no longer exists. Reset, by stopping the man who perpetuated the atrocities - I hope. Only three people remember it - the three who lived it and came back to the past - or the present, to the perspective of everyone I knew.
[There's a long silence - that hadn't really been meant as an argument either way. Just. Food for thought. When he finally speaks again, he sounds marginally more himself.]
I've got a harddrive from the UE compound - almost certainly heavily encrypted, and without proper hook-ups. And some samples of animal blood from the Outlands for toxin and DNA testing. Anyone have the resources to handle them?
And for those who knew him, Charles Xavier [there's a pause because no he is not going to let his voice crack in a public post] is no longer in Exsilium. He has an important future ahead of him, in his world, and... I'm glad he's not here to see this. [Because he knows Charles and he knows this would have crushed the young man's idealism, totally and completely]

He's really gone? It's been so busy, I haven't even checked...
no subject
Yeah - he's not on the island, and he wasn't in the UE with the rest of us. And his name is gone from the network.
It's probably for the best, though.

no subject
Oh? Why's that? [He actually sounds genuinely curious and not simply patronizing]

Yo. I've got a UE harddrive, too. I've been working to decrypt mine but I can take a crack at yours, too, if you want.

[The most morose]
Probably uses a similar schema, so if you've already started, you'll probably have the best luck. Where should I meet you? [you know, so he can psi-scan you to make sure you're trustworthy]
Voice
Mind if I come along?
no subject
Not a problem from my end.
no subject
How 'bout outside the housing complex. Seems as neutral a place as any.
no subject
Sure thing.
[OOC: Log or handwave? Either is fine with me!]
voice;
You hope.
[Nate is someone she trusts. This story is the first thing she's heard to make even a remote amount of sense in this insanity. But... hope?]
Re: voice;
I'm not one of the handful of people with the power to actually see changes in the multiverses. [He doesn't sound defensive as much as just... tired.]
voice;
You're saying that you, personally, went back to the way things were? Like the Initiative proposes will happen if we succeed?
no subject
Mm. Both Hope and I - that future we lived, it wasn't what the rest of the people I know will experience as those years.
I know some divergent universes have ceased completely to exist, when their originating factors were disrupted, but there aren't many people around who can verify that sort of thing.

There's no way to be sure... that just because it won't have happened for the Exiles that we'd be saving, doesn't mean it'll never have happened? [She thinks that's the right way to say it.]

[There's a lot that you could say, about something like that. But he wouldn't want some relative stranger poking his personal demons if he made that kind of confession; so.]
no subject
Yeah - most of it's crap, though.
[but alcohol is alcohol]

You've done this before. Manipulating events in time.

Yeah. More than once.

I'd say so - but I suspect there will always be others who disagree.
