II. A Moment's Notice [video]

[ When this video starts, it should be noted that this was perhaps one of the rare time that anyone ever seen the King of Wei outside of his armor. During the first several weeks Cao Cao spent here in Exsilium, the warlord refused to leave his armor aside. He was always dressed for war and the Wrath of Heaven would never be too far from his side.

However, today was different. While he refused to part with his blade, the King of Wei didn't look any less regal without his armor. Though, it's clear judging from the feed that he's been raiding the library for their books.

Someone definitely been a tad preoccupied as of late. ]

No word still from our adversaries? Hm. It's only a matter of time until our brief respite is disrupted. While the Initiative gives us much in the means of food and perhaps armament; I truly believe we're still ill-prepared.

[ A thoughtful pause lingered in-between his words as he pondered of a decent way to summarize his thoughts. It's unlike him to prattle endlessly about anything but as of lately, Cao Cao's been plagued with worry. ]

When will their next strike come? This is a question that none of us can answer but what can we do to prepare?

[It wasn't too rare. Giovanni had seen the King with out his armor before, but the beach had been a unique situation.]

It would be easier to prepare if we knew what the enemy was capable of.

[Giovanni too, had been raiding the library of late, trying to learn as much as he could about history and all of the new technologies that had been developed after his time. They may have run into each other there occasionally. ]

In a normal situation I would suggest a barricade to prevent them from interfering here, but we have already seen they have the capability to easily circumvent even the ocean between us.

[ That beach nonsense was a special case! Otherwise Cao Cao definitely wouldn't have left his armor behind. Just the thought of meeting with some of those prehistoric beasts made the King of Wei just a little paranoid. ]

Surely we have enough witnesses here who can speak upon this topic. Many of which told me once before of their past battles against the United Earth, and yet we sit here and do nothing to prevent the inevitable.

[ He sighed somewhat. It's so much easier to plan a war when you know your enemy. ]

With unpredictability on their side, this war will be in their favor.

[Sad, but true. United Earth held the advantage. ]

You have heard the stories that people have told you, what would you do to prepare for the next attack?

I certainly wouldn't linger about doing nothing, that is one.

[ The King of Wei paused momentarily before answer. ]

...I believe the best course of action would be to fortify the stronghold.

Va bene. Then you will have a lot of work to organize, my friend. There are many places that could use the extra defense. And the building itself could use repairs after the attack.

Yes, but surely you don't expect me to handle such a task in my lonesome.

[ Guess who just got nominated to assist Cao Cao with repairs? Here's a hint: their name starts with a "G" and he's from Italy. ]

But, leading men is more your profession than mine.

[Not that he would not help but this is some what out of his area of expertise. ]

I might be able to assist with the financing? Managing figures is something I have more skill with.

True enough. Though, I suppose I could use your assistance in the means of building enough funds for this endeavor. We cannot hope to succeed at this plan without the necessary supplies and manpower.

[ A pensive gaze settled within his eyes as he thought more about this idea. ]

I do believe I know of a few individuals who could assist me.

Of course. If there is anything I can do. I would like to see to the safety of the travelers.

[If not the Initiative. ]

I am sure there would be many others who would be willing to help? You just might need to draw up a plan first.

I'm not a fan of being buried alive, so helping fortify the catacombs and creating more places for non-combatants to bunker down in when there's an attack is a place to start.

[ The catacombs, eh? Cao Cao hadn't heard about any structure like that being present beneath the Hold. He's been so focused on the war effort that he forgotten to do some much needed exploration. ]

That would be the wisest choice but just how many of us would volunteer for such an endeavor? Judging from what I've witnessed thus far, there's no organization amongst us.

Find someone who's working on it already and tack yourself on to the project. The organization is lacking, but there are tons of things going on when it comes to construction.

All we do know about the United Earth is that they can still overpower us, despite our advances. We...lost one world because we were overwhelmed by their numbers.

[She sighs.]

It doesn't help that the Initiative just seems to pull in whoever they can. So there are people who help train anyone who hasn't had combat experience before. Some of us are doing research to help better our living conditions as well. Even though we have to big mandatory missions, some go on smaller scale ones either alone or in a group

[ The King of Wei listened intently as the girl spoke. He heard once before that the Initiative's prior battle against the Federation lead to a rather catastrophic end for one of the many worlds in jeopardy. He wasn't too certain how this was possible but apparently the United Earth possessed the power necessary to annihilate an entire planet. ]

Smaller scaled missions? [ That certainly piqued Cao Cao's interests. ] It's quite difficult within itself to coordinate a large scale attack with such a varying level of skill amongst our ranks. I honestly would prefer it if smaller scaled missions became more of the norm but the Initiative seem to have other plans.

Well, not all the missions are combat-orientated. The main goal is to travel back in time to change events that would somehow later lead to the United Earth's strength. And while not everyone can fight just yet, some of us have other skills that can be put to use with these missions. I believe you can request them and they possibly might be able to match you and any teammates based on your skills.

do they usually give a 5 minute warning before they start dropping bombs?

[ Cao Cao hesitated to respond once he saw the text flash upon the screen of his tablet. He's still getting used to operating this damn thing. Technology isn't really his strong point after all. ]

Of course not. Hence the need for us to prepare ourselves before their next strike. They have the luxury of attacking us whenever they please but this luxury isn't shared amongst us. We are heavily underpowered by them.

[ Watch it, brat! Cao Cao isn't the kind of fellow to take all that snark and sass lightly. He's a father after all and he will not tolerate this. ]

Mind your language, fool. If you have anything worth saying other than a braininess comment, now would be the time to voice your thoughts.

[Snark it is not, though language it certainly is. In either case, Stanley seems completely unperturbed at being called a fool and told to mind his manners.]

[ She's in the middle of sewing when she sees that, needle held to her lips as she reaches for her tablet. Because she's thought the same thing often. ]

Indeed so. I have wondered often at this lack of defense. Surely some other measure ought to be taken to better increase our chances.

Precisely.

[ Finally someone's who like-minded. Though, he honestly thought more individuals would be concern about the lack of security here at the Hold. ]

The terrain within itself offers very little in the means of protection and the very structure of this building is shoddy at best much like the rest of the island. I find it utterly absurd that no one has taken any of this account until now.

This is why I seek rectify this problem accordingly. Though, this cannot be done alone.

[ She sews and talks, keeping her hands busy always helped her think clearer. ]

The best I can say for the surroundings is that we will see any army in coming with how desolate it is.

[ she paused, pulling the needle through again. ] I am not sure what is best for that, nor what is available, depending on what fortifications are advisable.

Could be at any moment. We're not exactly in much of a position to put a stop to it.
