9th Mistake, an anniversary mistake [video]

I've learned a lot since I arrived here a year ago. Most of all, I learned that people are more than just a sum of their good and bad deeds, People are much more complicated than I ever understood at first. So I want to thank everyone for being patient with me - or uh, not, as the case may be - because it's been a chance for me to learn. Thanks.

Have you learned anything really surprising while you've been here? I'd like to know.

...On the note of anniversaries, um, I'd like to go out dancing? Somewhere with really upbeat electronic music, that's my favorite. Sort of as a personal celebration for making it this far. Maybe I'll have a dinner or something too, if I can think of something nice to make. Would anyone like to come with me? Dancing, not to dinner. Dinner's still in planning stages. I'll need a buddy, or um, a bodyguard, because I'm so small. It's not good for me to go crowded places on my own. I'd feel more comfortable if I had someone big and tough by my side! Or just tough. Pretty much anyone's tougher than me.

[As if to prove him right, a small black kitten crawls up his arm and begins chewing on his hair.]

Truffle! How many times have I told you, I'm not your mama! You don't need to groom me!

This or that might be unexpected, sure. I'm no psychic, after all! But on the whole, no, I can't say I've ever felt too surprised. At least, not yet.

I think for me... I had to sort of let it happen. I had to let go of what I thought people were like.

I meant, it's not a shame. And I'm not, really, no.

Without friends don't you get lonely?

But what if you need help from someone and now you don't have any friends? What do you do?

[heartsink]

You wouldn't expect someone to befriend the entire staff of a grocery before they would be allowed to buy anything, would you?

[moralperil]

Noooo, but if you befriend the cashier maybe they'll get you a discount! And if you smile at the person on the floor then they'll go out of their way to get something from a high shelf!

Kindness counts! It helps you get through lfie. And friends help with things more important than shopping for groceries. Like if you need help finding your away around osmewhere new, or a special kind of magic, or you need a safe place to stay, or if you made too many cupcakes.

Only friends will help you with some kinds of problems.

Oh, so you think me incapable of kindness, then?

I didn't say that! I just meant that making friends has its purposes, aside from it's fun and stuff.

I think it would be hard to be kind if you don't have friends, but i don't know what your life is life, maybe you're very kind. Just the way you've been giving your answers seems kinda snippy.

It seems that way to you, because that's the way you want to see it. There's no venom to me today. It's fine by me, though, if you think ill of me. Because that's how people are. I don't expect you to understand me.

Thinking that things like friends are the only thing that can help you, there's something too simplistic to that, I'd say. It's fine that you have them, and good that you appreciate them, but it's a little cruel to think the way you say you do.

Now you're just being unfair. If you're gonna tell me I'm reading something the way I want to see it and then turn around and imply that I think ill of you and don't understand you 'because that's how people are' then I'm not the only one who's projecting.

I don't think badly of you. Why would I think that?

Well, you don't understand me. That's a fact.

Of course I don't understand you, I don't know you too well. And you don't know me too well. I'd like to change that. I'd like to be friends.

If that's the truth, then we can settle it right now. Our aspirations don't match.

It's nothing personal, but I'm not going to call you 'friend,' or have those kind of feelings towards you.
