Good day to all of you. My name is Huey Laforet, and I'm also one of the new arrivals. I'm assuming this happens quite often so I'm sorry if this introduction is a rehash of something you've heard already, but I appreciate you taking the time to watch this anyway. Hopefully, we'll be able to learn more about each other as time passes. To the other arrivals, it's nice to meet you as well despite the circumstances.

[He squints at the screen before adjusting it, making a slightly funny face as he does so.]

Is this working properly . . . ?

[He tries adjusting it again, making yet another face before finally giving up.]

Anyway, I'm trying to discover ways to pass my time here so advice on that subject matter would be appreciated. Can't waste time on this network like you can with the internet, unfortunately— Ah! But the library here is nice, isn't it? I think I'll probably spend a bit of time in there since I do enjoy reading quite a bit. Still, if you have other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Hmmm . . .

Yes, we were attacked not long after I arrived, myself, two months ago. A great deal of the city is still in need of repair.

I prefer to train my mind though my physical capabilities are not weak by any means. You look a bit puzzled, miss? Would you like me to explain something for you?

[Plus, she doesn't really know of any way to train her mind, so she's stuck there. Plus, she can't read.]

I think it depends on each other. Some people find work around town while others train, and some people also have friends or family from home so they stick around each other and just spend every day like that. I know some of the people who've been here longest just prepare for the new arrivals, since that happens every month.

Every month. Well, I've personally only been here since May, but myself included whenever people arrive, it's on the first of the month. I guess the Initiative's scheduled it that way.

[She doesn't approach, but it's not like Huey had to even wonder if she was there. Of course she's there. She never actually stuck to him at all hours of the day, and there are times that she disappears to keep up her front as the cheerful, approachable Monica (and also because the allure of having a life of her own here is hard to keep ignoring), but if Huey stops for a second, she's not exactly hiding her presence.

She's not even looking at him. She is, but through the tablet that she's got in her lap. She's sitting far enough away that without the tablet, neither of them should be able to talk to each other. That's not fine with her, but what could she do? She's just going to make sure Huey is safe.]

What is the internet?

It is a grand scale electronic library used to share information from one computer to the next. Instead of books, they've been transported into machines such as this tablet. Of course, it contains things a regular library wouldn't hold such as personal diaries, conversations, music, pornography... however the basic idea is the same.

Many people can access a library of "things" that have been shared.

Well first off there's all the missions they cook up for us to go on. Which to be honest is about most of where you'll get your exploring done. There's always outside the city to check out here, but I have to tell you it's mostly a whole lot of nothing.
