Hello, everyone.

I have been in United Earth territory since June. I was released last week. Although I have been inspected and declared safe by the Initiative, I feel that it is my obligation to notify you all of what happened.

I am very eager to see some of you again. I am staying in my assigned housing at 502 while I continue to recover. Please come by at your convenience.

Kaworu-kun. [ it sounds like she's trying very hard to sound so terribly sad, but some things simply cannot be helped it seems. ]

I'm so glad to hear from you again. Are you okay? Can... can I get you anything?

I am still feeling tired and disoriented, but I will be alright. You needn't worry about me, Madoka. Thank you for asking.

How have you been?

Are you sure? We have some left over stew from last night and some extra bread from the bakery, it's not much... but its the least I can do.

I've been... I've been good. It's just been a long summer...

It's been very long.

[Kaworu has no interest in the stew or bread, but Madoka's company sounds like a good comfort.]

I would be very happy if you came by, maybe with food, to tell me about it.

Mm, I would... I would really like that. I'll be there soon, okay.

[ her magic certainly helps makes it so, because not long after there will a knock on his door and Madoka shyly peeking in. ]

Kaworu-kun... [ really, it's just good to see him. ] I left the food with one of your roommates, so if your hungry later but um... I'm very happy to see you again.

Madoka... hello.

[he looks up from his tablet to smile at her from his spot on his bed, propped up with pillows. despite what happened to him, he looks unharmed and mostly the same, other than tired eyes and overgrown bangs.]

Thank you for the food. I'll try some tonight. Please, have a seat if you like.

Mm, thank you...

[ she hangs in the doorway for a moment longer before moving in and finding a seat, Madoka's fingers nervously twisting her soul gem ring around her finger. ]

So much has happened... I don't know where to begin.

[he raises his eyebrows and sits back, watching her attentively.]

I will listen from whatever point you'd like to begin at.

When everyone became sick, it certainly took us by surprise. We, um... Sayaka-chan, Kyouko-chan and everyone at bakery where fine but- all lot of others were not. I thought that maybe that was the worst of it, but then the bombs came again. Something like that, it doesn't get any easier even if you've already experienced it before.

[ she pauses in the turning of her ring, glancing up with a slightly more serious look. ] But I suppose the worst of it was more recently. Kyouko-chan was badly hurt and I... [ a sigh. ]

Can I ask you something? Do you think that it's strange or cowardly, that in a place like this where we can revived upon death, to... still be afraid of dying? Be so afraid, regret so much and worry so badly even though in an hour or so none of that would have mattered.

[Kyouko was hurt? His brow furrows slightly at the news. Kaworu had spoken with her earlier today, and he didn't detect anything abnormal from her. Is she the type who guards those kinds of inner wounds? Not unlike Sayaka, then.

His concern goes to the back burner as he listens to Madoka's question.]

It's not strange, and it's unfair to ask whether it is cowardly. The sadness of others is normal as well. It is the natural reaction of humans to be afraid of death. [shakes his head.] Being in Exsilium for a few months isn't going to alter the brain's ancient programming.

Unfair... ? O-oh, I'm sorry. [ she falls silent though, simply listens for a long moment before offering a small nod of her head. ]

I'm sorry for asking such a strange question especially while you're unwell, it's not something I truly ever thought I would have to consider since I became a magical girl and it's sort of hard to ask the others. [ again, Madoka is silent before offering a smile. ] ... Thank you.

[shakes his head again, but it's more subdued this time.]

There's no need to apologize for either. I admire your thoughtful approach to personal problems, Madoka. You are truly a good-hearted person.

[he sits back.] Is being a magical girl hard? [Madoka is very positive, but Kyouko and Sayaka...]

[ Madoka bows her head, smiling but embarrassed. at least until his question is asked and she sits upright, blinking in a curious manner. ]

Hard? [ hmm. ] Yes, it is. When we become magical girls, it becomes our lives. In exchange for our wish, we agree to fight and we will continue to fight. We help make the hopes and dream of everyone come true after all... and for that to be, we must first make sure they are safe from the dangers they cannot see.

But in exchange, we have to give up many things we take for granted; friends, free time, falling in love... it's hard to be a normal girl and a magical girl. It can be a very lonely life, especially with the competitive nature that exist between some magical girls making friendships between us hard.

I truly hope though, that with my wish... things can be easier on everyone.

[These magical girls are truly mysterious people. Kaworu has the feeling that Madoka and the others have been through quite a lot more than they let on.

If they make wishes, then couldn't they help the world just through that? Or are there some other limitations he doesn't know about. Kaworu thinks back to all of the guarded conversations he's had with Sayaka.]

What did you wish for?

There are creatures called witches in our world, those are what we agree to fight in exchange for our wishes being granted. My wish was to defeat them before their birth, to prevent them from ever being born.

Of course, humanity will still create it's own monsters but without witches... I hope the world can be a better place for everyone. That we can remember those things and we can all be friends, and work together to protect everyone.

[Listening to this, Kaworu can only stare at her with an unreadable expression. It's very interesting, considering the other bits and pieces of information he's picked up from Sayaka and Kyouko. He couldn't have asked for a better distraction from his own problems than this puzzle.]

Magical girls exist to kill witches. Without witches, what do they do instead?

[Sayaka and Kyouko... they must be from a different point in time? It happened with him and the other pilots, too.]
