My last communication with him occurred during the outbreak of disease. I hadn't managed to respond in the state I was in, and since then...I have heard nothing.
He has gone across the sea somehow, I'm sure. To the UE. I don't know the extent of his resolve or abilities, but it has been so long.

Why did he go? Was he trying to infiltrate them, or.......? [he can't even bring himself to ask if he deserted. he didn't want to think about how the Initiative might handle deserters]
