I'll do my best to save you all from the complaining I am sure you all hear when a group of newbies is dropped off here. However, I can't help but think this is a piss-poor way to raise an army. It's like playing some sort of cosmic lottery and hoping you snag Napoleon or Genghis Khan by sheer luck.

I want to know what you've been doing as far as formulating an army; training, planning, strategy, that sort of thing. The Initiative gave us weapons and a history lessons, and then a hearty pat on the back and a "good luck", essentially. [He grimaces. He doesn't like them already.] I know there's the daily training they offer, but I want to know what the rest of you are doing as well.

Any more information on the United Earth that what the Initiative has provided for us at the start would also be helpful. Know thy enemy and all that. [He idly pokes at his tablet as he continues to talk.] Is there a library here? Or is everything digital?

Ah. I suppose I should introduce myself. Alucard Anselm. Before you ask, no, I am not a vampire and neither are my parents. "Al" will suffice. [Said like someone who's heard the comments a million times, and had to give this spiel just as much.]

[With that, he signs off. Alisha and Monica, Al's new roommates, will find him in his new room with the door open. He's doing his best to keep composure as the reality of this whole crazy situation starts to sink in. He's not even quite sure what to do with himself right now. It's not like he even has anything to unpack.]

The kind of army that could fit on this chunk of rock, let alone be trained up with the resources they can get, couldn't beat the United Earth.

I've seen what they're capable of, and it's on another level.

Thus why they send us into this world's past to poke circumstances and weaken the UE.

That seems like a very unreliable and unsure method of doing anything. A million factors could change any instant! Something could easily go uncalculated and only ruin things in the present further. Is that really their only plan?

I could tell something like that happened just from walking around. How is anything even still standing? From what we've been told about them, it seems like they should have enough resources to finish us off.

I see no reason not to. I don't think I'll be getting comfortable in a place like this anytime soon, so we might as well get to work.

[Now it's his turn to look surprised.] Are you joking? We were kidnapped and thrown into a war we have nothing to do with, forced to live with total strangers, and they expect us to be okay with this! What isn't uncomfortable about this?

Let me see.

You have a place to live, free of charge. You have a weapon better than pretty much anything you could've gotten at home. You know where your next meal is coming from and you've got a goddamn allowance, for fuck's sake. You have relative freedom to go wherever and do whatever you want, and you've got a whole fuckton of new people to meet.

You can't even fucking die here if what I'm catching is true. So yeah, the war thing sucks, but it would suck a lot more if it weren't for every accommodation and, you know, the whole immortality thing.

[Monica pokes her head into his room after his announcement. It's hard to tell if she was listening on the device or from in the apartment, but it doesn't matter since she heard it. She just smiles.]

Mr. Anselm, what's a vampire?

[He looks up her from his tablet, eyebrow raised.] You're serious? Are there no vampire stories where you're from? And I'm guessing you're my roommate, then. One of them, anyway?

Well, there might be but I've never heard that word before? I'm Monica.

[notadamnvampire]

A vampire is-- a kind of monster. In literature and pop culture. They're not real. [Not as far as he knows.] And it's where my name comes from, and people like to remind me of this constantly, as if I'm not already aware of how stupid it is.

[That doesn't really answer her question. Monica blinks, then resumes smiling.]

What kind of monster is it? Even if it might not be real in your world, it might be in mine.
