guys

guys do you know how is like, to be totally immune to everything? like nothing ever reaches you. no sickness and no disease and no bombs and no nothing, really

well i kind of am like that but i think i overdid it a bit with the missiles. not complaining about that but i don't remember ever feeling as bad as i do right now. the pain, you guys.

so how are things out there? i'm basically stuck in my room for a few more days before i feel more like myself, but i kind of hope all the effort everyone did was not for naught. everyone alright?

can someone get me something to eat?

[ Still not facing her, and sounding a bit miserable. ]

You're all blonde and flying and stuff and I'm...well, down here.

[ A beat, and she peeks from under her arm. ]

Okay, that sounded pretty idiotic.

[ kara smiles a little sheepishly and perches on the edge of the bed. ]

It's not that bad. And if it's any consolation, I don't like being blonde all that much.

[ some days, anyways. ]

[lar]

Flattery will take you nowhere. [ But she turns around so she can face her, so there's that. ] I've never been hungover but I think this is much, much worse.

[ Ella weakly props herself on her elbows. ]

Why, don't you usually have more fun? I'd like to be blonde sometimes.

I don't know, I hear hangovers are pretty awful. [ kara is so grateful she will never be able to experience one.

at the question, she shrugs and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear. ]

I look a lot like my mom. Sometimes it's a pain.

[lar]

Let us revel in the fact neither of us has suffered one so far. [ It was easy to tell Kara hadn't, and if the whole "super" thing wasn't enough of an evidence, the fact she didn't look like a crazy party girl certainly did.

But Ella had been wrong before. ]

In the "aw, how cute!" sort of way or the creepy "you could be sisters" sort of way?

[ if only ella knew. kara can get pretty crazy party girl when she's comfortable and feels like dancing. ]

She looked a little too old to be my sister, but it was definitely more the creepy way than the cute way.

[lar]

[ Ella would demand that side of her. Eventually. ]

So...creepy uncles? Me and my mom don't really look like we're related. Actually that applies to my whole family, and I know for certain I'm not adopted.

[ Just...God, you know? ]

[ this is clearly a thing that needs to happen at some point. ]

That could come in handy. Especially if they ever do anything to make you want to act like you don't know them.

[ Too bad Ella's awesome powers don't include making people drunk...although it could be worked around.

Clearly Ella was up to her destiny.

She shrugs a little. ]

They actually act like that, considering they don't remember me.

Oh. [ whoops. ] Sorry.

[ and now kara desperately hopes she didn't just shove this conversation into terribly awkward territory. ]

It's okay. [ She doesn't sound okay though! ]

You really didn't need to know that. I am sorry.

Do you... [ oh god how do you navigate conversations like this with someone you hardly know ] Do you want to talk about it or something?

Not...really?

[ She shrugs a little. ]

Maybe when the mood is not as awful as I feel.

Okay. What do you want to talk about, then? Or... I've got cards if you like card games?

[ be prepared is the motto of boy scouts and bat-trained people everywhere. ]

Why not both? Although I warn you, I haven't talked with anyone of both my age and gender in way too much time. [ She's not counting Exsilium and she's not counting Seraphiel, who is older than her, in a way. ]

So you're basically screwed if you wanted to have that sleepover right now. I mean, sleeping, I can do that no problem. Being girly, though? I've sort of lost my touch.

[ That's a huge lie; Ella has never been girly. ]

Hey, it's okay. I'm not used to hanging out with anyone who doesn't wear a cape, so I think we even each other out pretty well.

[ and even then, steph's really the only person he age she hangs out with on a regular basis. ]

I'm pretty sure we'd need movies and popcorn if we wanted to do the real sleepover experience. We'll just have to do it another day.

You would think, me being the way I am, I should be getting myself a skintight costume and start brooding on rooftops. And I guess I would have ended up that way if I weren't the only one back home. [ Every other strange thing was either part of the angels or the demons. Humans were positively puny. ]

A movie! Wow, I haven't watched one in forever. I guess cards it is. But talking about that...have you gotten into contact with other people willing to make some positive impact in this place? [ She hasn't forgotten, but Ella is a bit mortified for not being looking herself. ]

The way you are? You mean with the invulnerability?

[ kara takes the deck of cards out of her pocket and starts shuffling on her lap. ]

A few, yeah. I've got a list of people I need to talk to now that I've got some ideas written down.

[lar]

That and a couple of fancy tricks I have under my sleeve. Well, when I'm not suffering from The Suck.

[ Ella supposes it's easier to tell her as she asks. ]

Great. As I said before, you have my support. I never did the whole scout girl cookie selling gig, but if you need help to talk with people, I'm game.

[ As soon as she can function like a person again. ]

It's actually hard to explain with just words.

I can kind of manipulate matter in a lot of ways?

Like telekinesis? Changing the shape of objects? Adding or subtracting weight from an object?

[ spoilers, kara knows people who can do 2/3 of these things. ]
