6th Mistake; a delicious mistake

[Mahdi addresses the screen dressed in a red apron with his name embroidered on one side: a perhaps-obviously handmade gift from a friend. The apron and his face and bare arms are smudged with flour and a few streaks of chocolate.]

Um, does anyone want cookies? I made cookies.

[Around this time you may notice that pretty much every inch of the kitchen counter is covered with foil-wrapped paper plates.]

I made a few dozen.

And a pie. Maybe two pies.

Baking is how I vent stress sometimes, I guess, um...

I guarantee these cookies will make everyone feel a bit better! So let me know if you'd like a plate, I can drop it off with you. I'll probably be leaving some at the clinic too.


[OOC: Mahdi's cookies will, miraculously, give one a lingering sense of warmth and affection for a short time, due to his powers of emotional projection.]

I'm sorry, I don't have cranberry and sugar. That sounds like an awesome combo, though! If you have a recipe I hope you'll share it.

I have snickerdoodles. Those are cinnamon and sugar!

Oho... well, if I find the recipe, I'll be sure to send it your way.

Snickerdoodles? I don't think I've tried those before, but they sound delicious.

They're one of my favorites. They're crunchy outside, soft inside and so sweet. They're really good dipped in coffee, tea or cocoa too.

I can drop you off a tray, or if you'd like to swing by, you can get them yourself!

[Welp, she sure looks excited at the description right about now.]

Tell me your room number and I'll be sure to try these snickerdoodles for myself! You just earned Sheryl Nome's approval.

Room 402! Glad you approve, Sheryl Nome. I'm Mahdi Clare, by the way. Nice to meet you! Well, meet you in a sec.

[Luckily for Sheryl, her destination is only one floor away. With little time to spare, she makes a beeline over to the staircase, then it's a quick stroll over to room 402. Hey, a girl needs to get her sweet fix somehow, and Mahdi's cookies sound very promising.

Cue a few knocks at the door, courtesy of one smiling Sheryl Nome.]

[Mahdi answers the door, still wearing his red apron.]

Hi! Here for the cookies, right?

[galactically]

[She quickly nods, clasping her hands loosely behind her back with a pleasant smile still intact.]

That's right, yes! May I come in?

[moralperil]

[He lets her in. The apartment is very well-kept inside, and smells heavenly.]

Would you like a cup of cocoa for the road? Tea?

[galactically]

[Taking a few steps inside, she feels as if she just stepped into a warm bakery, all the sweet aroma reaching her nose.]

That would be lovely, thank you. [She takes a quick look around.] My, this place looks quite inviting. You certainly take care of your apartment very well.

[moralperil]

Yeah, Ashraf and I like to keep it tidy, and the lady who lives with us keeps to her room, mostly.

[Mahdi leads her to the kitchen, handing her one of the foil-wrapped plates marked with 'snick'.]

Tea or cocoa? It's just the instant stuff, I'm afraid.

[galactically]

It looks like a lot of effort when into cleaning. I don't think even my room is so spotless all the time.

[Aaaand here is where Sheryl's face drops to a slightly disappointed look.]

That's it? No homemade drinks to go with the cookies? For shame! [Le pout.] Well, I'll have to settle for some cocoa, then.

I'm sorry! I've been at this all night, I just don't have the supplies for proper hot cocoa on top of it all. [Mahdi does look sincerely sorry, and then--] But you shouldn't criticize when other people give you stuff anyway, jeez!

*went not when wtf me....

I suppose with the lack of proper supplies in Exsilium, I should—

[And she's about to say more until Mahdi's remark catches her attention, then she juts her chin up with an eyebrow raise.]

Hoh? You call this criticism? That's quite an overreaction!

[moralperil]

Yes, I do call it criticism. [Mahdi says quietly but firmly.] I baked cookies, I invited you into my home, and you act put-off because I don't have more than what I've offered you. These cookies are gifts, made with my hard work and my heart. Instead of focusing on what's not perfect, you should be happy and make do with what you've been given. Otherwise, you won't make friends and people won't want to give you stuff.

[galactically]

If you're calling a silly remark I made "criticism", then you need to develop a thicker skin! Where I come from, it's what you need to get through anything, not just in show business but in life. Besides, what I said earlier was just a joke. A joke!

[Which in retrospect, she should've brought it up earlier. This isn't going so well, oops. She points at him nonchalantly.]

Anyway, I didn't come to your home to hear what I already know by living here for months! If you say you made your cookies with all your heart and soul, then I can believe it.

[moralperil]

Sorry, I don't really like jokes that are mean-spirited. It went over my head.

[PAUSE. He motions over his head.]

Because I'm only 4'11''. [SMILE.]

You're in showbiz? I guess that explains it. I'm a little bit more of a behind-the-scener.
