[ Aurican doesn't look any different, even though he has undergo a thousand years of change. He is still larger now (he might have some difficulty in fitting inside doors now), his horns seem a little longer, scales still shining, but his wings have undergo the greatest growth.

His wings are now large enough for him to fly. ]

Does anyone learn how to fly? Is there anyone I can learn from?

Patersmith hasn't mentioned any race that fits your description. Perhaps he hasn't seen your kind before.

[ That would be wonderful. And slightly worrisome, as Kang never said he and Aurican met before if they did. ]

No, we haven't. You and your nestmates have been dead for a very, very long time.

[ Aurican's wings drooped down, furling to his back in disappointment. He feels a certain tightness in his chest, created partially by the sadness of knowing he and Kang will never meet, and partially on the understanding of his own mortality.

Aurican never considered the possibility of death in his own life, and yet here it is in the forms of words from his tutor's mouth. Aurican died and his bones are likely scattered into the dirt, into stone; perhaps they are in a lake's depths like his mother or burnt to ashes by fire.

In this world or the next, Aurican will be gone, and there will be others who will rise and walk above his grave, never thinking of their own deaths until their last breath. And more feet will walk trend on forgotten skeletons, and the cycle continues. ]

I was really looking forward to flying, as I might be able to see other races. I really like to meet with the elves, Patersmith told me they had some knowledge of magic. Do you know of magic?

I used to practice, years ago.

[And he was created from it. He's not sure if it's a good idea to mention that, though. It'll probably lead to more questions he doesn't want to answer yet from a curious youngling.]

I've helped to teach others, as well.

Patersmith told us magic died when my mother and her sisters died. How did it come back?

I've never heard that it left.
