[Waver looks a little agitated in this particular broadcast to the network. Sure, he'd participated in a war before, but this was a completely different story. After all, he chose to be the last war he was involved in. ]

So I get out of one war and have to participate in another one? At least the last one had something worth fighting for as a prize. What do these Initiate guys offer you if you're successful? Look, I'm not a fighter. You can ask the last guy I fought with and he'll laugh and wonder what the hell you could possibly want with a runt like me. You've got the wrong guy, I'm telling you.

[He pauses a moment, looking thoughtful.]

...But I suppose me telling them that isn't going to do much good. So I guess it would be better if I just toughed it out until they either reach their goal or someone strong enough comes along and puts an end to this.

Apparently we're pretty much picked at random. Which... probably isn't exactly the answer you're looking for, but that's what we've been told.

...That's pretty much the only explanation I can think of for someone like me being here.

[He lets out a sigh.]

I guess I better get used to it. What exactly do we do here, anyway?

Don't worry, you're not the only person here who doesn't really know what he's doing here. If the Initiative could actually choose who they pluck from their homes, the war would probably be finished in about a week.

We go on missions and train. That's what they say, anyway - I'm new here too.

[wait, part of that statement made him have a sort of brainwave.]

Hang on. We get to train, and from what I was told on arriving here, it sounds like they're focused on helping you sharpen the skills you already have instead of forcing you to try new ones on for size. At least I can kinda get behind that one.

I'm Waver, by the way. I hope this isn't as much a hassle as the last war I was in.

I'm Jaime. Nice to meet you. And I've uh, never actually been in a war before, so this is new, and not really in a good way. Were you a strategist or something before all this?

[Waver struggles to figure out how to explain his role in the Fourth Holy Grail War that's not "I basically hid behind my Servant the whole time". Yeah, he's drawing a blank.]

I had to summon a Servant with magic and work closely with him. We did okay, considering the circumstances. At least in my opinion.

You summoned a servant with magic. [He's definitely not pronouncing the capital-S sort of servant, because he can't say that he understands.] Ooookay. So, um, what's stopping you from just doing that again here?

Nothing maybe? I just got here, and I don't know if I can or can't yet. Though if I can, I think being here would be a hell of a lot easier for me.

It's worth a shot. They try to give us new things to fight with here; I don't see why they wouldn't do everything they could to make sure you can use what you already know how to do.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. No point in whining. I might as well make the best of it.

We can complain and make the best of it at the same time. [There's a teasing note in his voice, but he's halfway serious. Yeah, he's going to fight... but he intends to whine while he's at it.]

[Waver is actually a whiner, which is kinda why he said there's no use whining, because if he got started, he'd probably not stop.]

Yes, you've pretty much hit the nail on the head.

It seems the only way to return home is by circumstance or victory, regardless of how important your world's problems are.

[Pause.] At the very least, we don't miss anything from home as far as the action goes. And it seems the Initiate is trying to be less... obscure.

...Yeah, I was afraid of that. I don't suppose whining about how I'm not a fighter or don't want to fight will do me any good.

[An annoyed sigh]

What exactly is it there are after?

I mean, you could learn to fight. Just because you're not born with special abilities doesn't mean you can't.

[This, coming from a girl with a massive boomerang visibly strapped to her back, is probably somewhat biased.]

I think that they want what they told us in the beginning. To win this strange war full of subterfuge and establish peace and harmony, more or less. It's not a bad thing to want, and in fact, assuming they're telling us everything, I think it's a noble cause.

The only thing is that their army is drafted in the worst way possible.

...Yeah, you've got a point there. But you see, that's kind of hard for me to take at face value considering the hell I just got out of.

[He wants to take the "not born with special abilities" part personally and let her know that he could do magic and wasn't a total weakling, but realistically, he knows she's just saying the same thing he'd said in the long report he'd written up, so he holds his tongue.]

The war you mentioned?

...Not so much the war itself, but specific events that happened in this war that weren't exactly normal.

Ah. Well, you may be right in that they have ulterior motives. But the current simplest way to guarantee a return home is to win, it seems.

[Which is troubling, if the Initiate has ulterior motives and malicious designs. Sango wants to go home, but does she want to go home enough to assist in the victory of those motives?]

I guess the main thing would be to try to figure out if they had ulterior motives and what those motives might be eh?

[He sighs]

Well, like I said. They apparently have a spokesperson now.

And just who this spokesperson?

A woman by the name with Medusalith. She seems to have a sizeable ego and even more hair.

...She already sounds thoroughly unpleasant.

She's not that bad, from my brief interactions, and it seems she'll be acquiring assistants soon.

We're glad to have you anyway, wrong guy! We being Transports. The Initiative is, too, but for way different reasons. What's your name? What kind of war did you just get done with?

My name is Waver Velvet and I just got out of the Holy Grail War. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was that Holy Grail, but it doesn't work exactly the way the legends say, I don't think.

( She has to pause and consider what must be meant by Holy Grail... Arthurian myth isn't tops in her mind. )

The Holy Grail... what legend is that from? Nice to meet you, Waver! Waver Velvet? That's a different name! I'm Collette.

Arthurian legend. Not that King Arthur wasn't a real person. I met her once. Yeah, King Arthur was a she.

[a brief pause]

It's nice to meet you too.

( She finds herself smiling. )

A she on your world. Wow, that's great! Kick-butt girls, we can always use more of those in all the worlds.

Well, most everyone [that he'd met at least] in my world was "kick-butt", to use your words, in one way or another.

[Except for him. He's the only exception.]

That's so cool! What're they all like?

Well, they were all just cool as you'd expect heroes an all to be.

You think? I don't know, that sounds like a lucky hero pool! Everyone here is all different kinds of personality and coolness.

I just didn't fit in with them. But at least I tried.

[Perhaps he fit in better than expected. Considering he survived and all, and some others didn't.]

( She waits for him to add something else. When he doesn't, she blinks and asks: )

That's the million dollar question right there. Supposedly, we'll get sent home.

[He's not really too sure he's buying any of it.] What war were you in?

I was a war called the Holy Grail War. And I'm guessing no one really believes we'll get sent home, eh?

[Holy grail no way.]

You part of the Camelot crew? [There're enough of them here to justify that name, ok.]

Some do, some don't. [He doesn't.] The turnover rate here is pretty high.

Really? You mean there's other people here that say they are from the Holy Grail War? Meaning they might be from the same Holy Grail War I was from?

[Then again, they might not be. There was more than Holy Grail War.]

Haven't heard anything about the war but - I've met Merlin and Guinevere.

Oh really? I've met King Arthur. And she was pretty cool.

[Yep, King Arthur was a woman.]
