( Audio picks up the sound of industrial construction, either things familiar in woodshop, car garages, or anywhere of a similar sort. When the feed goes live, Collette is framed to one side, looking forward and away from the camera. She's clearly resting on her arms, and given the angle of the ground on the screen, she's probably lying on her stomach in order to do this. She glances over her shoulder, eyes going to something behind the tablet being used for recording, then smiles as her eyes drop down to the tablet itself. For all intents and purposes, the camera is positioned to make the viewing audience seem like they're side by side with Collette, wherever it is she is, keeping a low profile in this industrialized looking area. Concrete floor that she's resting on, packing boxes ahead of her, bundles of cables and chains glimpsed somewhere past her head. )

Guys! ( She keeps her voice low, not a whisper (they carry further, and can't be heard about the ambient noise), but low to avoid excessive attention. ) Anyone else catch where they dragged the ship off to with that giant crane after the crash? I wondered about that. But I've got news!

( She makes a waving motion at the camera, and it shifts, jarringly, to leave Collette off screen and show something covered in plastic and wiring and cables, a few Initiative workers using welding guns, others wheeling parts away or calling out shouts of questions over the sounds of construction. )

They say the spaceship's salvageable!

Maybe about a week's worth, and I bet -- I just bet! -- some of it had to do with the old moon base up on the moon.

... That's a pretty redundant statement, huh?

A little, but if there's anything the Initiative can use up there then you're probably right about that. Have they mentioned much about the moon base before?

They sent us back to New Mexico to kick off the whole super awesome space program that ended up getting a moon base built, then later abandoned, so if maybe not directly, then I think they pulled it out of their hat as an option for the future. Why else push for space program development? Most of the rest of that stuff I don't think went anywhere.

[ Well dang... There's some foresight. ]

On one of their missions...? Then do you have any idea what they would have on the base?!

... Maybe a... laboratory? Probably not a death ray? That'd be in the history books, for sure!

Probably? Well that's comforting.

Hey, it's been abandoned for hundreds of years! I'm betting there's lots of dust, and hoping it has mostly functional life support systems in place, or easy to repair.

( She nods, because that sounds appropriately sci-fi relevant enough to her. )

It might be awhile before we have a chance to find out though, if that is what they're planning on using it for. A trip like that would have to take awhile to arrange even after all the repairs on the ship have been made.

Especially if they need to make the other end safe, too! Like think about the spacesuits we'd need, and all this other stuff... it's crazy!

And making sure they have all the details of every component of the ship in the event anything happens to it...

See? That right there is while you'll be invaluable working with everyone else here!

[ A skeptical hum. ]

Maybe. Honestly, I think this is the kind of thing they'd have already consider before I said anything.

Think you should make sure that's the case? Besides, even if it is, does having another set of eyes around be as important as anything else.

It might be, but I'm not exactly an expert on these kind of things. My limited abilities as a mechanic don't carry over to spaceship repairs. The most I could do was point out things that should already be obvious.

I keep not hearing why you think any of this is a bad thing, you know!

[ Hesitating for a minute. Well, besides honestly not thinking he'd do a whole lot of good there's the issue that... ]

I'm not entirely sure I want to help the Initiative in the first place.

You don't need to be helping them directly. But... it's your choice. What you do or don't do, that's up to you. Just... it's important, too, to remember that us Transports and the Initiative aren't entirely different, and aren't at all much the same.

That's not something I'm trying to ignore either, and while I don't agree with some of the things the Initiative does I also realize they're the only way people have to get back home.

You could technically lie low and see when you'll get sent back home at random. Or who knows? Being pulled back home might not have anything to do with the transport pads themselves. Though it should, but you know. Mysterious things in the Universe and all1

I kind of doubt the people being sent home are getting back by other means, but until I know for sure I won't write off the possibility. Either way it's not much of an option if we don't have a lot of control over it.

This is part of that. It really is! That, and figuring out what makes the transport pads stable, to send people back instead of wait for them to be pulled back and to disappear out of here entirely.

Trying to figure out how to stabilize the transport pads should be first priority then... but can we say for sure it is?

If we make it our priority, then sure!
