Hello, Exsilium.

I realize the timing is probably inconvenient considering the network's recent posts. New Transports, I mean. But this won't take very long at all. There are a few things I would like to address, so please read the following carefully:

Anything and everything previously mentioned about Contrast Mechanics does not apply. Well. We are looking for employees, but there's a process someone didn't consider before bringing it up. Anyone is welcome to apply - prior experience isn't necessarily required for certain positions. Currently, we're limited in the number of applicants we are able to hire. However, as Contrast Mechanics grows, so too will our staff.

All applications are processed by me. Interviews as well. You will be contacted personally when final decisions have been reached. If, at any time, you've been previously promised employment by the...owner or have discussed arrangements, please let me know. I have names, but-- It might not be entirely accurate. I'll be sure to take care of everything.

By the way, my name is Pepper. If there are any questions, I'll do my best to answer them, and I look forward to meeting with each of you.

[ Attached to the end of the text is this document. Someone's put their foot down about doing this the right way, sorry. ]

If you're not busy, later this afternoon would be perfect. [ Or they're going to have to meet some time later in the week since her schedule seems to fill up faster than she can keep track of it sometimes. ] If that doesn't work for you, let me know, and we'll figure it out.

This afternoon works for me. There's a cafe a few blocks from the Hold that does great coffee; I can send you the address and we can meet at five?

[She's fairly sure five counts as "later this afternoon"]

Please do. 5 sounds perfect. [ Except her to be very punctual. Early even. ]

[+1 cafe address; it's a relatively small place, but good enough.]

I'll see you then. [And with a little salute, she switches off the feed.

She arrives at the cafe half an hour early, ordering a coffee and giving the place a quick once over under the pretence of searching for a seat, before finally settling in a spot with a good view of the exits. She's dressed simply, a red button down shirt paired with black jeans, and a black trench coat hanging over the back of her chair.

Depending on exactly when Pepper arrives, Steph might be on her second coffee.]

[ Small is more than acceptable; if anything, it makes her easier to find. Pepper herself is also dressed simply - skirt, blouse, jacket, and heels - even if it might not appear that way to some. She's relatively on time because of appointments and keeping schedules; also, the one time she'd been late, and Tony never lets her forget. So, she approaches Stephanie relatively quickly. ]

This is nice. [ Tablet on the table, smile smile smile. ]

[She smiles in return, an easy sort of thing, more genuinely friendly than simply polite, as she reads what Pepper's typed.]

It's a good little place, you should try the muffins, if you're hungry.

[A sort of pause, deciding what to do next before she offers her hand to shake.] It's nice to meet you in person.

[ The genuine smile comes shortly after the comment about the muffins. It reminds her of a particular friend she's met here, and it's a little ironic. She accepts her hand easily.]

It's nice to meet you too. Were you waiting long?

Just long enough to grab a coffee. [Nevermind that it's her second, explaining the whole Bat-paranoia thing isn't great for her secret ID.

Not that she has much of a secret ID anymore, but the point stands.]

I'm guessing you're from the same world as Mr. Stark?

[Small talk is not her forte, but she figures the question manages to walk a line between 'pleasantries' and 'getting striaght to business' that should be acceptable.]

[ A nod in response, and the question makes her smile. More amused, really. Pepper sits across from her. ]

Yes. We're [ Complicated. ] We've been together a very long time. How did you meet him?

[For all that the words are on the tablet, Steph is watching Pepper as much as she's reading the text. It's not - overly scrutinous, but when confronted with someone who doesn't speak, she's learned to pick up on other cues, instead.

She misses Cass.]

It's good that you've both got someone familiar here. [She's just going to depress herself if she keeps thinking like this.] I just replied to the announcement he made on the network about Contrast Mechanics, it sounded interesting.

[ The smile on her faces wavers only a second, wondering if speaking of their relationship might be a little too personal considering. In Exsilium, she knows people aren't as lucky. In fact, Tony really hadn't been either--for almost a year. Pepper sits back, one hand on the tablet as she looks at her. ]

Oh, I'm sure it will be. [ A shake of her head. ] There's one back home too, you know. A company. It's under a completely different name, but the idea is the same. [ Except it's more about clean energy now rather than weapons manufacturing. ] I suppose it makes sense having one here too. He's good at what he does.

Hopefully not too interesting, at least for me. [She gives Pepper a wry grin, because if Steph does end up as the on-site medic, she'd rather not have anything too exciting happen.

The fact there's a similar company back home doesn't entirely surprise her, based on how Tony and Pepper have been handling the whole thing.] I got that impression-- that he's good, I mean, I had a look over some prototypes and it was good work.

[Better than she could do. Probably better than Bruce, if she was being honest.]

It's hard to tell in a place like this. I [ She pauses, tapping her fingers as she considers what she actually wants to say. ] Things have been a little hectic already.

[ She smiles, leans back into the seat and relaxes. ] And please. If you ever need anything, just ask. [ It's not something they do for employees, but she likes Steph. There can always been an exception. ]

Things tend to be hectic when you involve the multiverse.

[Not that Steph's had first hand experience with it until now, but she's heard enough stories to know how much of a mess it always is.

Spaceships crashing into buildings don't help, but her involvement in that isn't really the sort of thing she wants to mention to a potential employer.]

Does that include a raise? [Her tone is light, clearly joking, though her smile is grateful for the offer.]
