( Crystal is standing outside in what looks to be a part of the outlands. The rain is falling, but conveniently doesn't hit her or her communicator as she holds it in one hand. She's walking as the feed opens, stepping delicately through what might have once been a fenced-off field-- at least, the remnants of the fence are scattered around, although the field itself is barren. )
I realize this is a busy time around here, but since a few people have mentioned this I figured now was as good a time as any. The years and the war haven't been kind to the land of this place, but I've been working to see if that can be helped. It's slow-going, but there's hope, for the soil and the people who could depend on it.
( She pauses, smiles. )
I know there are several people here with either scientific knowledge of, magical connection to, or other knowledge of the earth. I know there have been attempts to build greenhouses and small-scale growth, but I'm thinking bigger. This is a farm-- or it was. I want to get it running again.
( Another pause, as she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. She pans the camera over the decrepit building, the barn doors off their hinges and the fallen-in roof. The equipment, where it remains, is rusted over and unusable. )
But there's a lot of work to be done, aside from that. Building, carpentry... whatever else it takes to get a place like this running.
( Now she looks almost sheepish; she's a princess and has never actually had to do that kind of work. )
We didn't choose to be here, but there's no reason why we can't improve this place, and help it's people. That doesn't only have to be through war, and battle. So if you're willing to help, with any of it, I'd be very grateful. And I'm sure the people of this place would be, too.
( She seems to have finally reached her destination, on the side of the house. And there, sure enough, is a small 4x4 plot of apparently-plowed land. It's color is better than the soil in the fields, and clearly someone's been working with it. )
It'd be nice if something could grow, here. Something we could use.

[voice]
I'm not really much of a farmer or anything, but I know a little. And I'm not bad at building or fixing stuff.

You're a Summers? ( Reading the comm ID. Name seems vaguely familiar. )
no subject
Yeah. Nathan Summers - why?
[OOC: Sobbbb issues I haven't found scans of yet]
no subject
( That seems the most direct connection to the X-men. )
Havok and Polaris were staying with us, recently.
no subject
Ah - I think we might have met at one of the big events at one point. Been a while though, for me.
I'm, ah, Scott's son. [He will never not feel awkward saying that]
no subject
( She doesn't even blink at that last fact. It's not so far-fetched. )
Well, it's very nice to meet you, Nathan.
no subject
Quite true - particularly given my extended 'family'
[and Bright Lady he's so happy to not get the 'but isn't he younger than you' question. Or the 'you mean your dad is leader of the X-Men' question]
It's nice to meet you as well, Crystal.

( If Lorna and Alex would just get married already the Summers family tree would literally take over the world. )
Now I'm really going to have to put you to work, though. There's a whole barn up here than needs rebuilding.
no subject
[He laughs a little] I'm not sure you'd want to even be an honorary Summers - we seem to have the worst luck.
And my TK isn't nearly what it used to be, but I'll see what I can do to help.
no subject
( Which worked out... so well last time... )
And I really appreciate it. I'm sure if we get enough people to help this place will be running in no time.
no subject
Well. Clan leaders in my time have a certain amount of status. [Though now he's mostly joking, because leading Clan Chosen was not exactly any sort of noble political position there]
But you're right - a lot of hands can do the work that one person with powers can't always.
no subject
That's the particular problem I'm working with, actually. You'd think being able to manipulate earth and water would make this a one person job, but no.
no subject
[He laughs a little] Not that invested in the debate, I think.
And even at the height of my powers... well, there's a lot you can do with TK, but a lot of it isn't any good if I don't know how buildings go together, or the best way to lay out fields.

If I can get scientists to figure out exactly what's wrong with the soil, I can make it better, quicker. I guess the same principles always apply.
no subject
I try to be.
I might be able to give you a guess - I've spent enough time in places where the land and water are poisoned to get a rough idea of what's wrong.
no subject
( The pollution could also kill her, but she doesn't mention that. )
no subject
Well, I'll have a look, anyway. There may be a scientific solution, as well - a lot of areas had nutrient-depletion problems by the 38th century, and Clan Chosen had a few permanent settlements.

It's... a long story. But that's when I grew up.

I'll let you know what I find, then.

Thank me when I give you some useful information. But you're welcome.
