Was there anything done to offer war relief?

Well now that would depend on the species! I have seen some human societies offering war relief, but in the time I am from, most humans are far from affected from war despite their country fighting another.

We've had wars end, but not the one I've been in. Seems like that one just keeps going.

In the past, people have turned to keeping prisoners of war and trying to rebuild as best they can. In some ways, life must go on.

Yes, but our resources were all but depleted. Couple that with our society existing in small numbers across a few dozen space ships, with no planets to return home and an enemy in continuous pursuit... well, I'm sure you can figure out how little relief there was to go around outside of words that helped nothing in spite of their kind intent.

I was a lot younger then, but I remember a time without war.

The last real war I was in was a slave rebellion. When it was over, the winners - the slaves, actually - worked out their government and justice system, punished many of the former masters with confiscation of their wealth, and used that as their starting point. I'd gotten a few people from my organization in to help them work out some of the harder parts - diplomats, an actual economy not based on slave labor - and by the time I came here, the country was still getting in order, but starting to do well.

There were other wars, and sometimes they ended well, and sometime badly. But there was no 'war relief' most of the time from the governments. A lot of the time, you had wandering priests helping out instead, especially those dedicated to peace, healing and charity.

My world... was still climbing up to a better way of doing things.

The soldiers... [ Hold on, slave rebellion. ] uhm... the people who had to fight through actual combat. What did they do after the war?

Gotta say I have no idea what pumpkins or scissors have to do with anything, but I can tell you this: if you don't make your own relief, nobody's gonna do it for you, soldier. People are never gonna learn to get along, it seems.
