[Axel looks a bit haunted and haggard, like he hasn't slept in a few days and maybe was recently in a fight. Which wouldn't be incorrect assumptions, for that matter. He stares at the feed a moment like he's not sure what to say, then frowns.]

According to the date on my tablet, I've only been gone a little over a day. [A bitter laugh.] My, how much can change in a day.

[A brief pause and then he puts on a private filter.]

We should talk. [His tone is severe, but not belligerent. You got some 'splainin' to do, Riku.]

[It takes him a moment to figure out those percent signs are supposed to be X's. Strange. Maybe this person's tablet is missing keys and he's trying to make do? Eh, whatever.]

Interesting's a good word for it. A lot of stuff happened, but you should really introduce yourself before you start expecting storytime, stranger.

Axel. Nice to meet you I guess? As for what happened, it was basically nine months of slowly coming to the realization my boss is a nutter. [Among other things, but he's not going into those.]

D --> Your boss, as in the project head of whatever occupation you have

That's usually how boss is defined, to the best of my knowledge. The guy I answered to back home. He's not here, at least, so I don't have to do his dirty work anymore.

D --> Are you contractually bound to that occupation back home

[Buh?]

Not on paper, exactly. But I guess you might say there's something in it for me.

[Theoretically, anyway.]

D --> And that eventual compensation isn't enough to make the work bearable

More like I'm concerned I'm gonna wind up with the short end of this proverbial stick. I don't mind the work so much as I mind the motivations of the ones assigning it.
