[ action - for roommates (Soldier Blue and Judal) or anyone who wants to stop by unit 510 ]
[Bolin's sitting on the floor in the living area, with his back against the couch and Pabu curled up on his head. He's spent most of the past five days exploring his new home (and training, and hanging out with Korra and Asami as much as he can). But a guy's gotta give his muscles some time to rest and so he figures he might as well play around with the strange little gizmo they gave him. (Evidently he's supposed to be able to talk to people through it -- like a mini radio or something.)

He pokes hesitantly at the screen and gasps in surprise when it changes. It takes him a long time to find the tutorial, and even longer to make his way through it. Reading is hard enough for him even when he doesn't have to figure out what strange words like "video" mean.

In the end, it doesn't help him that much. All he really gets out of it is you can leave messages for everybody who has one of these weird devices to see, and these messages can either be in written words, recordings of your voice, or a kind of moving picture with sound. He decides to just poke around the device and see if he can figure out how to make a moving picture post for himself -- it sounds pretty cool.

Ten minutes later --]

[ video ]
[The feed flicks on and Bolin lights up.]

Hey! I think I finally figured it out! [He leans closer to the device, and Pabu jumps off his head indignantly to go doze on the couch.] Hello in there! Can anybody hear me?

[His thumb slips, accidentally switching it to audio.]

[ audio ]
Wait, what did I just do?

[It takes him a little bit to respond; he spends a good 5 minutes trying to figure out what "=)" means via context clues before giving up.]

I think I'll stick with the moving pictures. They're kind of neat.

[Bolin immediately tosses the weird device aside and dashes to the front door. (Maybe it's Korra...)

It's not Korra. In fact, it's a total stranger.]

Hi there. Ooooh, that smells good.

Maybe you should work on it. Since, you know, it seems to be a recurring thing.

This is my good buddy Pabu! He's a fire ferret.

Man, I can't believe how many people have never seen a fire ferret before! He's a fire ferret, by the way. His name is Pabu.

Yeah, Pabu is definitely better than any tablet. [BIG GRIN] I'm Bolin. Nice to met you, Kousuke.

[mock salute because what else is he going to do?]

A fire ferret? So does he attack with fire or something?

Loud and clear! Do you say that about moving pictures, or is that a radio only thing?

[ riku can't help but be amused by what he feels as a reaction; acute senses mean that he can feel that dash for the door, and he chokes out a little laugh by the time bolin gets to the door. ]

Someone sure is full of energy. [ tease. ] I made a little too much stew; I've still got like, three containers. You want some?

Now you're on video. Which means I can see you, and you can see me. [ She waves a little. ] Hi.

[Eventually, Sheryl switches back.]

Speaking of which, I noticed you had a cute furry animal by you. I've never seen it before in my world! Is that your pet?

Still getting used to the technology, eh?

Honestly, you're asking the wrong guy. We don't have either of those where I come from.

If I thought there was anything to work on, I might, but I don't.

Anyway, you might want to work on switching between just voice and having the camera on. I take it you didn't have stuff like this in your world, either?

We don't have fire ferrets where I'm from, but I like it! He's really cute! Does he know any tricks?

[Mildly amused, but trying not to show it. She's been there, buddy.]

It becomes easier with time.

[Bolin grins, taking the teasing in good humor.]

There's a reason they call me Mr. Energy. Not that they actually do.

[He takes another whiff and lets out a happy little sound, like a hungry puppy.]

I will never say no to free food. Especially when it smells that good. [He steps aside.] Wanna come in? I'm Bolin, by the way.

Hi! [Bolin grins brightly and waves back at her.] This is some pretty amazing stuff, isn't it?

Yup! Come say hi, Pabu. [The camera shifts to a strange view of the ceiling as Bolin reaches over to grab Pabu.]

Oops! [quickly fixing the camera] This is Master Pabu. He's a fire ferret. It doesn't seem like a lot of worlds have them. You're one of a kind, buddy.

Me neither! [ She drops the mocking tone. For now. ]

Who are you?

Nice to meet you, Bolin. I'm Riku.

[ let's just be happy he hasn't nicknamed bolin yet. (hyper or dash are possible nickname choices.)

his offer gets a blink. huh, not many people actually do that, and one of his free hands rubs at his neck. well... ]

I guess I could use a minute before I run all the way back down to the second floor. I have been training all day.

You're new here, right? I don't think I've seen you before; and I've seen everyone, after being here a year.

What? No. Don't be silly. He's not a fire bender. That's just what they're called. I guess 'cause they're fire colored?

[Not this kind of public at least. He's made a lot of mistakes in the probending arena, but he doesn't listen to the radio to get them rubbed in his face.]
