So, I want some people's opinions on the sentient-weapons thing. It's just something I've been thinking about, since I haven't had a chance to use mine much during the missions I've been on. I'm planning to switch to something more practical for my needs, but...

Are they actually as useful as they seem, in your opinion? I mean, where I'm from, intelligent items are kind of a pain in the ass, to say the least. Always demanding things, and if they're strong enough, they can make you do stuff if they don't like you.

I don't see as much of that here, but... It makes a girl cautious, you know?

(OOC: At some point, this post is going to inspire Pidonus to switch her sentient weapon from a whip over to her voice - making her bardic magics, bardic music, and suggestion spell more effective. If someone with a voice ability wants to suggest the idea to her, that'd be great!)

They are not that kind of intelligent. From what I have seen and experienced, they respond more to your needs and will and do not separate themselves from you.

Mine was sentient and ancient before we came here. And we're suited for each other. so my opinion is skewed, I suspect.

Apparently if you ask, yeah. Thing is, you shouldn't do it too much since the idea is that, as you use your weapon, it becomes better matched to you and more powerful. Losing that progress isn't worth it unless the weapon just isn't working out at a base level, you know?

It scares a lot of people, but it is unfounded from what I have seen. The weapons only gain enough to know how to help and how to anticipate what you need, not become their own self unless you are one of those individuals who invested the abilities in another living creature. Ander's cat for one.

The most common fear of sensible D&D characters: Housecats.

There's both good and evil ones, and ones dedicated to causes that don't relate to an alignment.
