[For emphasis, he clicks the lamp beside him off, and the video goes dark. Nothing to see here, apparently.]

Listen. Guys. I'm curious what people do here for fun. Because uh-look. I've tried sleeping, and training, and then I tried going outside. And talking to the people in the market, and you know. Looking for animals. And I found some, but they were really creepy and mutated. You know? So it's impossible to forget this place is so...

[The light comes back on with a soft click. The phone-roll-up is on the bed table now. Yosuke smiles down at it tightly, and shrugs. Then something thumps in the other room and he jumps at least a foot, gesturing wildly and knocking the device off the table. Someone get the kid some decaf.

He hangs over the side of the bed and gazes at the mobile, his image now fractured like a kaleidoscope, and gives a rather put-upon sigh for a guy who was just trying so hard to be personable.]

Damn it. I'm cracked...

[Ther's a loud 'whoomf' sort of sound and he faceplants dramatically onto the bed here. What part of bored and desperate are you not hearing, old man?]

At this time of night? Do you think something's open?

[And then, with a loud snap of the fingers:]

I can work in the clinic with you.

I'm not on drugs! Stop telling people I'm on drugs! I told that guy no in the zombie tree.

[Jesse, for one, does not think Yosuke is on drugs.]

What kinda stuff were you into back home?

[Thoughtful blink.] Zombie tree? [Yeah, this part? This she actually takes seriously.]

[Finally! He's relieved enough by that response that all the tiny fractured Yosukes slump a bit, and prop their chin up with their hands to give the question its moment of due consideration. And then they lean forward and pour out a deluge of animated word vomit..]

Hanging out with friends. And uh...there was some good hiking in the area. And I went to school and I had a job and...did some um. Volunteer work. You know? It was just busy all the time at home. Really, really busy. At first the break seemed nice but I think I've memorized every inch of this place already. And I know we're supposed to be saving the world, but I mean...do you feel useful?

[Lala can't hear you.]

But it's open right now, isn't it? Hey...hey, listen. Listen, if you let me help for an hour I'll let you shoot me up with a sedative. How about that? It's a fair trade, right? You get to practice healing and I get to learn a cool trick first. That sounds good, right?

Actually it was a normal tree. But there were zombies at the bottom.

[Nods as if this makes total sense. Which, to her, it actually does. Undead do tend to congregate.] Ah. So bothersome, the undead.

[There's a bit of a rumbling sound on her end, and the display rattles. Oh, has she left that project unattended for too long?] Excuse me a moment. There's been a sudden release of compressed energy.

[Down go the goggles, and she hurries out of frame only to return a couple of minutes later, pale skin and floppy ears stained with ash. She looks mildly disappointed.]

Well, yeah... Kinda.

There's lots of volunteer work if you're into that. Somebody's fixing up an old church and somebody else is working on a greenhouse. And every month we make cookies for the new arrivals, if you wanna help with baking and giving those out next week.

Aside from that, I got a job with the Initiative. You could ask 'em for one, too, and get yourself some extra pay on top of the usual allowance. There's also solo missions.

I really don't think I'm allowed to sedate you like that. Or let someone work in the clinic without the bosses' permission.

Aw come on, I'm not going to tell him. And I don't mind! You can say I was unruly.
