because it's pi day and I have no self-restraint
[ Video as usual. One of these days Anders ought to take a typing class and advance beyond two-fingered typing. ]
So we're back to ourselves, yes? Another bout of our hosts' incompetence survived. I have to say I'm proud of us as a community for placing responsibility where it belongs, and not jumping to conclusions. I haven't seen or heard anyone blaming mages for what happened.
On a happier note, I've learned that today people are supposed to eat pie, in honor of mathematics. Anyone up for a potluck? I'm no mathematician, mind. I just happen to think pie is always worth celebrating.

Pie is a letter in Greek, and they've got another word entirely to mean an edible pie. The Greek pie is a number three-fourteen, that's three and fourteen-hundredths, and it lets you figure the diameter of circles. Useful for people who build things, I should think, among other uses. At some point in the distant past, someone thought it might be fun to celebrate the number by eating the food, and the day chosen for it is the day that's three and fourteen, the fourteenth day of the third month.

They sound like a people who dearly love celebrations.

[Well, why not. Between everything else he's experienced.]
I don't necessarily see the common sense behind pointing fingers without gaining all the facts first. But I know people can get hasty when they're scared.
At any rate, I think you've got the pie thing a little mixed up there, man.

I'd hate to give anyone a half-baked theory on pie. [ Horrible pun, party of one? He has no shame. ] It all sounded very cut-and-dried to me, but as I said, I'm no mathematician. Could you elaborate?

I haven't celebrated Pi Day since I was a kid. Count me in. I've still got pie crust in the freezer somewhere.

[Wait.] Pie? [OH gawd, he splutters and grins, running a hand over his hair.] Oh yeah, right, that's today! Ohhhh good god, I haven't heard that since New Mexico... Obviously it's meant to be a play on words, but I'm never going to say no to some pie and coffee.

Pie? Oh...Math wasn't my strong suit in school but I get it now. Funny how you should mention celebrations on this day. Back home, there's a holiday I used to celebrate on this day too.

Eating pie in honor of mathematics? [What kind of tradition is that?] And what do you mean 'blaming mages'?
[Not like magic is real.]
