That varies greatly. Some of us have been sent home and returned, and many of us have been sent home seemingly permanently. Some of us have been here for a year, with no coming or going. There is no pattern or correlation, as far as I have heard anyone tell.

As I am not one of those who have any pressing business at home, I cannot say that these truths grow less severe with time. But based on observation, I can tell you you will grow used to them, if you remain here long enough.

The woman I've been talking to mentioned it. It's a comfort. Still doesn't mean that I won't worry, but it helps.

I'm Lee. I used to be a professor at a university. Not that I think it's going to help me much here.

You may be surprised. As I understand it, the Initiative's work with time is delicate business, and they may well need more bright minds set to the task.

As for a healer, that means I deal in holy magic. I can heal wounds, strengthen a warrior's strength or a mage's magic, and resurrect the recently dead.

Well, I guess we'll see, but I'm not so sure giving a history lesson is going to help us out much.

[While most of that surprises him, the last one gives Lee a surprise.] I'm sorry, resurrect the dead?

Yes, provided the death was untimely. Illness and old age are beyond my scope.

Lee is wary for a moment about telling the truth, but it seems like the best option. He decides to be honest.]

Where I'm from, the dead come back. Just, they're not themselves. They become mindless and hungry, eating the living.

We have creatures like that within my world. No, those I resurrect have their minds and all faculties intact, as though they were never dead at all.

That's a useful ability to have, but I imagine it must be hard on you. It's a lot of responsibility.

[ that gets a brief pause. it's not something he's heard from anyone else before, even if maybe now and then he thinks it. ]

I'm glad that you have that kind of pride and optimism. I'm not sure how I'd feel having that kind of power, but you seem very confident.

It is what a priest must be. The timid do not make it very far in the battle against undead and demons.

It's not an easy task.

The undead in general are unusual to me. They just started showing up three months ago where I'm from. But I'm pretty sure I'd have noticed demons by now.

They do make themselves apparent.
