[video] dated to very early morning on the 26th

[The video that comes on is nearly a profile view of Isaac, instead of his usual open smiles. The light is also poor, but it seems like he's outside somewhere. There's a quiet curse in another language (Yurok) and then he gives a wan smile. The way he hesitates over the beginning is awkward, like he's making things up as he goes.]

I thought it would be a good idea to tell people. I've discovered a predator out in the borderlands. Ambush-style, and it strikes like a snake. It's... I have no idea what it is, but it has too many legs and--

[Instead of continuing that Isaac just turns the camera and the dawn light picks up a large animal, very dead. Too many legs is an apt description, and it looks like it might be an unholy cross between a badger and an exceptionally mean-looking weasel, with very long claws. He directs the camera away quickly, but those with an eye for detail will be able to pick up that the creature looks like it got into a nasty fight and was badly mauled.]

Just a warning for people who travel outside the city, I guess.

[With that he seems to end the feed, but he's really just setting the filter he'd been trying to in the first place. The filter is naturally very easy to hack.]

[He faces the camera directly this time, and the side of his face he was hiding looks bloodied.]

I don't think I even need to say it? Treating myself would take the flexibility of a contortionist even if I did have enough supplies. It's not directly life-threatening, but bleeding steadily from some of the lacerations, and I'm going to need a lot of stitches. I can put together something temporary but that will be worse in the long run. The quicker this is taken care of, the better.

Which brings me to the real problem. I'm out in the borderlands right now and I have no idea if anyone has any faster transportation than walking. Ideas?

[He really ends the feed then, but not before giving the viewers a flash of bare, bloody shoulder.]

[And he's totally not showing the blood on his face, even if he's sure most of it isn't his.]

[She notices the way he refuses to show his face and so she decides to set a filter of her own.]

Then I've probably seen worse and can probably help with that.

[He decides not to question it and that switching to video is not worth it.]

I am north of the smaller section of city. North and a little west. There's a forested area... I'm going to guess about 20-30 miles away, and I'm on the far edge of that.

Alright. Stay there. I'll be there in about ten minutes.

I have some injuries on hip and thigh, just as a forewarning. But thank you, Raven. I'm Isaac. I'll be waiting.

[He says that with a little quirk in his voice that could be amusement or embarrassment. It's a round about way of admitting he's naked. Maybe he'll sacrifice his underwear to bloodstains...

And about less than a minute later, a separate message. He sounds a little urgent.]

I forgot to mention. My blood is an infection risk. You will need to be careful and bring the necessary supplies.

...Would that still be risky for me even if I don't touch you? [And if she's only half human. But she doesn't slow down. Whatever he says, she'll probably do it anyway, she'll take the risk.]

[There's a moment of silence, and then a soft oh.]

I see. Then no, that shouldn't be a problem. Just, anything that comes in contact with my blood should be sterilized afterwards. We can't do anything about the ground but...

How did you get... infected? What kind of virus is it?

To spare you technical terms, I was born with it. I got it from my mother and there is no cure. The virus itself causes high, fatal fevers, seizures, and intense pain if untreated. Even with treatment the death rate for the initial infection can be as high as 40%. Once the initial stages have passed, it's not only possible but likely to live a long, healthy life with only a few adjustments. The most dangerous part is the fact that we can pass it on to others if we're not careful.

[He's leaving a lot out, but the 'it makes me a werewolf' portion is something he wouldn't tell.]

Ah. That's fine, then. As long as I don't have to help you get rid of that virus, only close wounds, I should be able to heal you before I take you back to town.

[Raven won't be able to tell he's a werewolf, though his aura might remind her of a certain shapeshifter she knows, her teammate Beast Boy. And since BB also became a shapeshifter further to some virus infecting him, it kinda makes sense. But she won't ask Isaac questions. She doesn't pry. And if he'd rather keep it a secret, so be it.]

No, I'm used to it. I honestly wouldn't want a cure for it at all, but if anyone finds a way to make the infection risk less, I'd jump on that in a heartbeat.

And thank you, though I might choose to walk back, if I can be healed. ...Magic?

There's also someone else coming to help. I'm sure between the two of you I'll be right as rain.

[Though he's thinking now, if he'd known it was magic he might have told Peter not to come, but too late for that now. Whoops.

And indeed, his aura might end up being similar to BB's. Isaac would probably consider BB a kind of super-Were anyway, especially if he knew how the power originated.]

Magic, yes.

[If he looks up, he might see her fly towards him. When she notices him, she lands softly a few feet away from him. She nods at him in greeting... before averting her gaze.]

You're Isaac, right?

[Isaac is a little distracted by everything, really. By the time she gets to him, however, he is a little more dressed, though the underwear are already soaking through from the lacerations on his hip. Something got him pretty good, and he's got a variety of claw marks and bites. None life-threatening, but some are approaching severe, and certainly the bleeding isn't good, even slowed by the pressure and gauze he's applying. He looks up though, and nods.]

[The relief in his voice is audible, though his expression shows it less.]

[there is a pause, as Peter is running to the Borderlands as fast as he can. He doesn't have super-speed so it may take a while]

Do you think you can stay conscious until I get there?

Mm, I've got pressure on what I can reach that's bleeding steadily. There's at least one on my back I can't reach, but I don't feel the effects of blood-loss just yet. I just didn't bring enough bandages to take care of it all, and I really can't bend like that either.

[He laughs, making light of the injury, though some are pretty deep. Injury pain is really nothing compared to the pain caused by changing.]

I might need fluids by the time you get here but I doubt I'll need a whole blood transfusion or anything. There were no major arteries or veins cut that I'm aware of.

Okay. I'm going to need to cut off if I want to get to you faster. I'll turn it back on when I get to the Borderlands.

[as promised, he shuts off after that so he has more concentration. Of course, once he's sure there aren't people around he decides to fly. It's a lot easier than running and he makes it there a lot faster. He touches down when he reaches the edges of the Borderlands. The rest he'll go on foot until he finds Isaac]

[Isaac chose a heavily (well, for Exsilium) forested area to change, so it won't be hard to spot, especially from the air. He's near the edge, in a clearing, but on the far side from the small offshoot of city. He'd been trying to avoid coming in contact with humans, at least.]

[Peter will keep wandering around until he finds the place. He may turn on his device again just to get a look at the area]

Hello? Hey, I'm here!

[To say Isaac is surprised to hear that voice is an understatement.]

[He's been moving around, that much is clear, and is...well, only in underwear, which are now pretty bloody because his hip got slashed badly. It's probably suspicious that not only are they otherwise undamaged but that the rest of his clothes are folded up neatly not far away, along with a torn apart pack half scattered over the clearing. There's also the dead animal from the public feed, and up close it's really mauled. The head is barely connected to the body, and there are deep, torn bite marks in several places on the shoulders and two front sets of legs.

Currently he's curled in a ball to put pressure on as much of his injuries as he can. Bite marks and claw marks mostly, and some are deep but none immediately life-threatening.]

[Peter runs up to Isaac, ignoring the torn clothes and the mangled animal. All of this can be addressed once Isaac is feeling better. Right now Peter's priority is stabalizing the man. He drops the medical bag he brought with him, working quickly to pull out bandages]

It's okay, I've got you. I'm going to patch you up and then take you back to the city.

[And Isaac gives him a flat look. His injuries must be painful, but his gaze is clear, and he's got a stubborn look in his eye.]

Gloves first.

[In fact from the way he's holding himself he's not about to allow touch at all until that happens.]

Double glove for your own protection. Then we can get to treatment. Did you bring a suture kit?

Relax. This isn't my first day, you know.

[Raven walks a bit closer to the two men. She's already greeted Isaac but Peter doesn't seem to have noticed her yet, his attention logically focused on Isaac's injuries.

Raven is not fazed by the wounds or the amount of blood. She's seen worse. Still she's not sure what to do just yet. Maybe Isaac is more comfortable with being patched us the non magical way, after all...]

Before either of us heals you, do you wish me to alleviate the pain?

[She turns to Peter.]

That way you can save the painkillers for someone else.

[Since she's assuming he brought some of those with him.]

[Isaac is paranoid and the blood loss is probably starting to have an effect, honestly. He looks at Peter's hands like he hadn't even seen them when he turns his attention back from Raven to Peter for a moment. He's almost sheepish, but defensive too.]

Days before they abducted me I'd just gone through having to watch several people suffer for weeks because of this and two of them died. One of my nurses contracted it too, even though she was using proper precautions. I'm entitled to be paranoid.

[Then Raven's words dawn on him and he shrugs.]

It doesn't hurt that much, really... I'll just let you two decide how safest to take care of it; I'm starting to feel very fatigued all of a sudden.

[Blood loss, he knows, but he can't do much about it. It's in their hands.]

[Peter suspects Raven has some kind of ability. He greets her in a nod, taking out all the necessary things to clean Isaac's wounds. If the infection is that serious he needs to take care of that first before they do anything. While he works he turns to address Raven]

What kind of healing can you do?

[Raven's cautious by nature and she's not used to sharing information regarding her powers. But here his question sounds legitimate. She lowers her hood revealing her face and hair.]

Instantly suppress pain. And close up wounds by speeding up his natural healing process.

Anything that would reduce the risk of contact with my blood would be great. I heal fast on my own, but while I'm bleeding I'm a danger to everyone around me.

[And Isaac is very, very serious about that. He might be paranoid and overestimating the danger, but he really does believe that about himself and his blood.]

I can bind your wound first; that way when she closes them, neither of us will be at risk for infection. [to Raven] I have an extra pair of gloves if you need to touch him for... whatever you're going to do.

[it sounds like a good idea to him, and he's already binding up the more serious spots as he speaks]

[She shakes her head 'no' as she watches him work.] No, I don't need to touch the wound to close it. I just need him to close his eyes and clear his mind of all thoughts.

Good plan.

[Isaac doesn't resist as Peter starts binding the injuries--the long raking claw marks are the worst of them, but there's also some bite marks with significant tearing around the punctures from the struggle.]

And I'll see what I can do about clearing my head.

[Isaac doesn't really know how, but he does his best by closing his eyes and breathing deeply. He focuses on his own heartbeat, trying to let that lull him into a more peaceful state.]
