...This is gonna sound kinda weird, but hypothetically--just work with me here, hypothetically someone had a birthday here. Does it still count even though they're sorta uh, dead? See, I have this buddy and he's been worrying about it for about a week now--if it counts, would he just keep tacking the years on? Does it even matter here? I know some worlds have limits like in some you can only drive when you're 16 (if you have a license that is), and then some you can only drink if you're a certain age.
[Demyx could you be any less obvious? Just man up and admit it's your birthday, jeeze.]
A-Anyway, would it be weird if he did want to go out and celebrate with himself, even if it doesn't count?

A wise man once said to me, "It is not the turnings of the world, it's the miles you've travelled." So I'd say yes, it counts. Whether to celebrate surviving another year, or just to appreciate what you've done, there's no reason NOT to celebrate.

...But that actually sounds pretty nifty--the whole... Turning of the world thing. I never really did much to be proud of in the past, soooo I guess I'm sticking with the surviving another year deal.
Re: voice
And that's a poetic kind of thing. Sometimes it's not how old you are but what you've done in that time that really leaves the marks.

[A picture of her becomes available.]
My father was half-demon. I look less human than he does. A lot of people saw me and would chase me and try to kill me - or worse - so I sort of have something more to worry about than not aging.
Also, where I'm from, there are elves, and they live four hundred years or so. And two hundred fifty for the dwarves. And people with elven blood who don't seem to age for a while, then get suddenly very old very quickly. So where I'm from, not aging isn't really the kind of thing that some people worry about.
And there's magic to return the dead to life - or not quite to life, if you don't mind horrible hungers - so 'I was dead' or similar, for some people, is more of a job hazard than anything else.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to celebrate either.
[ text ]
so i wouldnt even really know where to start celebrating
do people just throw confetti and junk nowdays?
[ text ]
It might be for the best to pick up where you left off. Or to start with whatever age you should be turning now.
[ text ]
so 24 i guess. do humans do anything special for that or do things kinda mellow out after 21?

Jerk, why didn't you ever tell me when your birthday was? I mean, at least one person would have had it memorized, you know? You can't complain about not getting any presents if you don't tell anybody.

But that's a bit fatalistic, isn't it? Do you need a heart to be pessimistic? I lose track of what I'm supposedly able to actually comprehend and reflect accurately. [Here, I got you some sarcasm. Happy birthday!]

Wait-wait--Fatal...istic? [Axel there are one too many -istic words there for his liking.] C'mon, man...

[He waves a hand then.] Look, I'm still not sure what to think about... everything. But if it's your birthday then at least let me buy you a drink or something. Just 'cuz we never got the day off for it back home doesn't mean it's not a big deal.
