Talking about paradoxes gives me a headache

A question to you all that has been weighing on my mind for some time.

We've already inadvertently changed history to our own detriment before. What happens if we accidentally change history so that one who invented our time machine was never born. If there was no one from the present to open the time portal back up, would we just get trapped in the past?

Do any of you know how to build a time machine from scratch? I do have some hope of eventually returning to my homeworld, and being stuck in the seventh century would make that significantly more difficult.

[There's an annoying sigh on the other end. It practically sounds like a growl.]

So we're supposed to rewrite events in time, change things, and we get all kinds of side effects for our trouble.

I don't want any part of this whole mess.

Nor do I, but here we are. The Initiative has at least made an effort to be helpful. United Earth has dropped bombs on us. I know which I have decided to aid.

[medicating]

Bombs? Good God...

[draconic_historian]

This IS a war. Were you not told?

[medicating]

Yeah, I was told, dammit. I'm in the goddamn military, so I know how it works. I'm just wondering why we're sitting here being easy targets if the enemy knows this is exactly where we are.

[draconic_historian]

We're not easy targets. We have many places for the helpless to hide, and many of us who are not helpless.

[medicating]

You just said they dropped bombs on us, didn't you? Did anybody die from that, or did these hiding places save everybody?
