[Nananea isn't smiling for once, and when she talks she isn't making her usual grand gestures with her arms. She’s just sitting, idly fidgeting with her hands, a vaguely concerned expression on her face. A substantially more subdued Nananea.]

I have been thinking lately. About leaving this place- about what truly happens when we go. When the Initiative is done with us. What happens to the people who simply vanish. The popular theory is that we will return home.

[She looks away briefly, taking a second to gather her thoughts.]

But. I have been wondering. If we do return home, do we get to start our lives again just as we left them? Has our home universe been in stasis the whole time we were away? The more likely answer is that life continued without us. That time passed. But how much? I am concerned... that perhaps while we are away, time has passed unusually. Perhaps it has been years back home, and the people we love are dead and gone and our homes will be unrecognizable.

[Another pause, and then she smiles. Not the brilliant grin that’s so typical of her, but at least it’s a less dreary expression.]

In that case, I do not think I will wish to return home. But! I am being quite the pessimist, aren't I? I could be wrong. It is very likely that I am. I wish to hear other theories, if any of you have them. Or maybe I should not dwell on this so much.

[It seems like she’s done after that, but a thought occurs to her, and she perks up noticeably, sitting up a little straighter, smiling just a tiny bit more.]

Ah- one more thing. I have noticed that other people have moved into my housing unit recently. We have not yet met- but welcome. I hope we will see one another soon, face to face.

Considering the Initiative's stance of generosity and in favor of preserving our lives, I've actually been wondering if in cases where there's nothing to go back to we could negotiate for our continued stay.

Well I don't know about anyone else or ewen you, but I know for sure I got nothin' to go back "home" to.

It's either liwe here or nothin'.

It is not unlikely that they would continue to be hospitable. But if they no longer need us, there would not be much benefit to keeping us here.

Sort of. There were other options in a specific manner a' speakin', other places to go.

It just wouldn't matter since I'm dead back in my own uniwerse.

From what I can figure, time does slow relativistially in our worlds when we're not there. First thing I did when I got here was make sure I wasn't going to leave twenty years behind again... Just how much it slows down, though, I can't be sure of just yet.

[This is certainly something Eddie has mulled over from time to time. It's a concern, but one he's kept at the back of his mind for the time being.]

Whatever the case, I just want everyone to have a place they can happily call home when all this shit is over.

It's a time machine, right? They can probably send you back to whatever time you wanna go back to.

It is not like I have much left to return to, but enough of my fate, we are speaking about those of you that still live in your worlds. I do believe that it has been mentioned that the time machine slips us back into the spot that we were pulled from. Not that our worlds were static, only that our worlds have all these small slips of time and we came from one of those slips.

I'm more accepted here than I am where I came from.

( Huh. Ellie's spent a lot of time staring at her bedroom ceiling. And thinking. Poking about on this network thing, making lots of facial expressions that fill the spectrum from incredulous to really really incredulous. There's also been an unhealthy amount of moping; it feels uncomfortable, being here. Specifically being away from the others. It isn't right.

Maybe that's why she's been sort of delaying making the effort to meet her roommate. She'd have to, eventually, but putting it off was part of denial. Then again, maybe it was time to push on through the seven stages of grieving or whatever bullshit this was.

So, when she hears a voice in the other room, she decides to just get on with it. Maybe it'd beat sitting around here alone. Then again, she still didn't really believe Eddie when he mentioned unusual people, so when she glances at the network - about the same time as she exits her room - Kinna will be blessed with an extremely loud )

That's a damned bad way of thinking 'bout things, ma'am. [ Pause. ] If the world's gone on and we're left behind, seems the only road left is fer us ta keep living, in one way or another.

Perhaps. Some of us do have useful skills- but the humans may not want us lingering here after they are done with us.

That is reassuring, somewhat. But you do not know certainties yet, do you? I wonder if there are many people who have gone home and returned.

I've met one. And it was actually a promising point when he complained that weeks over there amounted to days here; it supported the time dilation model.

Yes...yes. You are right. I am just unsure if they will be able to manipulate time in our home universes as well as they can in this one.

Yes. I am as well, of course I am. I just do not think it is a very reasonable expectation.

[Nananea's still fiddling around with her tablet, but when she hears that shriek, she nearly drops it. It doesn't sound like that scream came from the unit next door- she better go and take a look outside of her room.

She opens the door a crack, peeking out into the common room with two eyes. And when she sees that the place isn't unoccupied, she pushes the door open even wider. She doesn't recognize that human at all- obviously her new housemate. She hopes.]

Are you- is everything alright out here?

[Ughhhhhh humans yeah she slumps at that.]
