video;
I'm back.
[That was the coolest opening he could think of (or rather, the lamest of the coolest he decided on). It looks like the blue-suited lawyer is back to being a blue-beanied scruffy.]
That was a bit of an adventure wasn't it? I'm kind of embarrassed to remember it. How was it for anyone else?
Oh, and... [A pause. Then he clears his throat.] Aah, never mind. It really is a bad idea to let kids into something like this. But I guess Father's Day will be a little lonely from now on.
[to Maya, Mia, locked separately]
I think I owe you an explanation. Got some time for lunch?
[to Edgeworth, in the evening]
Do you have some time? I'll pay for tea, or coffee, or whatever you drink.

action!
[Plus, she was hungry.]
Come oooon! Can't you walk any faster?
action!
[He's glad she's here. He's glad to see her. He breaks into a light jog to close the distance and pat her on the head.] Hey.
action!
[There's a brief pause at the head-pat, though, as if she isn't quite used to it]
Hey. [And she stops right there. He was back to the way he was before.... Trucy was gone. As prone to putting her foot in her mouth and blurting things out as she was, even Maya was hesitant to breach either subject] Are you hungry, too?
action!
[He wonders for a moment if Maya minds that he does that, lowering his hand and swinging it at his side as he pauses to consider her question. Is he hungry? A little, he skipped breakfast so he hasn't eaten in a while. He smiles down and her and nods.] Why would I have invited you otherwise? Do you want some burgers?
action!
[But she's definitely perking up even further at the mention of burgers. What can she do about Trucy, though, aside from try to cheer him up?] I thought you'd never ask! Waiting for you really worked up my appetite, and you've got to keep your strength up!
action!
Well then, a burger lunch is coming right up! It's pretty close by, so I hope you can wait.
action!
We better hurry up and walk, then!
action!
All right, let's get going. [He promptly turns to start walking in the the direction he pointed at, though he still looks at her.] How are you Maya?
action!
[She bounces along with him] I'm hungry! [...]
How about you?
action!
How is he? He could answer her honestly -- he's sad. He's lonely. He called Maya because he was lonely and he wanted to have a friend close and he knew Maya would come if he asked. But he doesn't want to bring down the mood. If he wants to laugh, he shouldn't mention being sad around Maya who sucks in other people's emotions like osmosis and works hard for it.
Nope, he's gotta grin it. It's not like Maya doesn't know, he figures. She knows who Trucy was.]
I'm doing pretty good. Hungry, too, so let's get going.
action!
[It's hard to tell just from looking at his face, but he can't be doing okay. He just lost Trucy, after all.]
[Maya slows a little (despite her claims of hunger), and walks closer to him. If Pearl was gone... she'd feel this way too, wouldn't she?]
Good! You've got to keep up your strength, you know.
action!
action!
[There's a beat, and then, finally:]
... I'm sorry.
action!
[He reaches over and rubs Maya's head. It's tied up though, so he can't mess it up much.]
I was used to having her around. It would be lonely, but all things considered, it's better if she's not here.
action!
[Maya really didn't know too much about Trucy outside of the reveal. (which had taken her some time to get used to, Nick being a dad. She had to wonder, though, why Trucy didn't recognize her, if that was the case? Was she cheering Nick on because Maya wasn't there to help?]
[But these thoughts had no place here. This was about Nick] That sounds about right. When we were all underground, she was doing her best to help out... she even put on a magic show, it was great.
[Maya remembered that about her] I bet she's waiting for you back home, getting her own circus together.
[And...]
Don't forget that Mr. Edgeworth and sis and me are here too! Well, maybe you can forget Mr. Edgeworth, he's pretty stuffy... but it's not like I'm going to leave you on your own, you know.
[Her tone is a little teasing; but it's sincere. He should be able to tell that]
action!
But Trucy doesn't do circuses, she puts on her own magic shows. And since she's waiting, I can't be stuck here forever because I need to make sure she's getting home on time, too.
[But he smiles at Maya and nods, knowing her sincerity and appreciating it. He isn't alone here, even if he hasn't been completely honest to them, and it's really nice, much nicer than the one-man investigations against Kristoph.]
Yeah I know. Thanks, Maya.
action!
Isn't time weird though? Like.. the second you go back, you'll pick up right where you left off? So when we do find a way back, you'll just head through the time loops again and... bam! With Trucy, getting sawed in halfo r something. [That is probably not the way it works]
[And she'll smile back! It's genuine.] Don't forget it. It's my job to look after you, you know?
action!
It will be weird. I think what I was doing last, I was on my way to get dinner or something. It's kind of a sad thought to think I'll go back and the first thing I do will be to be hungry.
[He pats her on the head again. He appreciates you, tiny assistant thing.]
action!
It's only sad if you have no burgers. Otherwise, you and Trucy can just chow down again and you won't have to fight in any war anymore.
[Good. She'll let him ;o;]
action!
We're almost there.
action!
Good. I'm starved. [And she'll walk a little closer.]
action!
[He grins and nudges her friendlily, keeping on walking until they reach the burger place. He'll even open the door for her what a gent of a hobo.]
action!
[You know, because it's totally his fault there are no aircars. Anyway, it seems like they've fallen into easy conversation, but she tries to keep glancing over his way to gauge his reaction even as she doesn't hesitate to hop in the door before him.]
Wow, Nick, I had no idea you were such a gentleman.
action!
You can order whatever you want. Then we can sit down and I've got something to tell you.
action!
Nick, you're a lawyer, not a pianist, what are you talking about?
[Also weird: him offering to buy her food without her having to wheedle at him.] Well, okay...
